Digital Information Fluency: 3.A Learners ethically use digital information.
Principles of Inquiry-Based Learning: Authentic- Using online tools to create visual
presentations is relevant in the lives of the students. The topic of South Carolina is also
relevant because it is about the state in which they live. Deep Understanding- The
students develop a deep understanding of the topic by applying what they learned to
create their presentations. Assessment- Teacher observations are made throughout
the lesson. A rubric is used for self-evaluation, peer-evaluation, and teacher evaluation.
Appropriate Use of Technology- Curated resources were used to help students with
their presentations. Technology was used by the students to create a visual
presentation. Student Success- Students are able to help each other in groups. They
are given the opportunity to express their thoughts and listen to the ideas of others.
They are actively engaged throughout the lesson. Connecting with Experts- An expert
will come in to discuss the importance of tourism and advertising in South Carolina.
4. Performances of Understanding- Working in groups allows the students to support,
challenge, and improve each other’s ideas. They are able to express their thoughts and
apply what they are learning. Ethical Citizenship- Students have to use information
from the internet in an appropriate way.
Enhance/Extend: Using technology to create a curated list of resources enhances the
learning for students. The resources provide a way for students to develop a deeper
understanding of visual presentations that could not be reached by only using class
discussions. Creating visual presentations online is a way of using technology to
extend the students’ knowledge. This is a skill that they can continue to use outside of
the classroom in their everyday lives.
