The growth of tissues in or on an artificial medium outside an
organism
• the tissue is removed from a plant or animal and grown in
glassware (in-vitro) under carefully controlled conditions.
• Growth is by mitosis & produces a cluster of identical
offspring's (clones)

• Plant breeding – micropropagation – growing large number
of plants from a small piece of a plant
• Skin grafts
