Cancer is a group of disorders where certain cells lose control of their mitosis rate and multiply uncontrollably, forming tumors. Benign tumors are not life-threatening as they do not invade other tissues and can be removed by surgery, whereas malignant tumors invade other tissues and spread through the body in a process called metastasis, dividing indefinitely and posing serious health risks. Causes of cancer include genetic factors like oncogenes and external carcinogenic agents.

Uncontrollable multiplication of abnormal cells
Invade other cells and move around the body
Movement called metastasis
Can divide indefinitely

5. CAUSES OF CANCER:
Genes – oncogenes
Cancer causing agents – carcinogens

6. MEIOSIS:
Is a form of nuclear division, in which the daughter
nuclei contains half the number of chromosomes
of the parents.
Daughter cells are NOT identical
Occurs in gametes

7. FUNCTIONS OF MEIOSIS:
Functions in multicellular organisms
Allows sexual reproduction without
increasing the number of chromosomes
in the offspring
Allows new combination of genes –
variation.
