2. Scream
• The OTS for Scream uses a
black background with red
writing in the centre of the
screen. the typography of the
word “Scream” is written in a
sans-serif. The black background
emphasises the red font to make
it more eye-catching
• This connotes and signifies
danger and possibly death which
fits the slasher sub-genre.
• The number 4 is included in the
title, replacing the letter A,
although the intention is clear.

3. Friday 13th
• Bold geometric font expands
in size, building suspense and
mirroring the way in which
the film builds up.
• Once again, the red font
indicates danger and death.
• The black background allow
the title to emerge from the
darkness.

4. Se7en
• ‘Brad Pitt’ (main
actor) is dispersed
across the screen in a
way that connotes
disorder and chaos,
carrying the themes
that the symbolic
OTS hints at.
• These names of
members of the
production team
appear messily
handwritten.This
links in with other
symbolic images in
the OTS which
include old books
filled with messy
handwriting.

5. TheTexas Chainsaw Massacre
• The title of the film is
predominantly white on a
black background,
emphasising its significance.
However, the font is tinted
red to convey impurity and
danger; possibly also
representing blood.
• The cast is always displayed
in the corners of the screen,
with obscure images in the
centre.This is representative
of the way in which the
images are more significant
than the cast names.

• We can consider the techniques used in other horror films and identify
which ones would work well in our OTS.
• Certain films use titles and credits in particular ways in order to convey
their themes more clearly to the audience.
• For example, we will imitate the way in which The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
position their credits in the corners of the screen to prevent pulling focus
from the images which are vital for creating the tone of the movie and
creating narrative enigmas.
• The way in which Se7en incorporates the credits into the images displayed
simultaneously is an effective technique.
