FORMS & CONVENTIONS OF MEDIA TEXTS
              Media Blac
INTRODUCTION
Been asked to create a PowerPoint slide which will demonstrate how our thriller film is
alike/unlike to another movie. I will be comparing both films together, contrasting the two
and identifying the difference between the two and show examples of this. On the next
slides I will be identifying and explaining the main aspects which are:
• Camera Shots
• Camera Angles
• Sound
• Mise-en-scene
• Narrative (Plot)
• Challenges to the Genre
CAMERA SHOTS
We included a lot of different camera shots, in order to make the characters more
representative. These are some of the shots we used:
• Full Shot – a full shot of the male character standing near the wall, able to see the
costume, the mise-en-scene (positioning)
•Medium Shot – from the chest up, giving the audience a closer look at the character.
CAMERA ANGLES
We made sure that we positioned the camera in other positions, to try test out what positions
suits best. Below you’ll see the different camera angles that we filmed.
• Low angle shot- when the two characters take a look down at Ellie shows the sense of
Ellie being less vulnerable in the scene
• High angle shot- when Ellie looks up at Rose and Claire to talk to them.
SOUND
In our media product we used non- digetic music throughout the whole scene.
In the ‘silence of lamb’ movie, I came across non-digetic music which gave an extra thrill to
the scene, wanting me to know more about the film. Sound has this source of effect that
trigers the audience to stay attentive and wanting to know what happens next.
MISE-EN-SCENE
• Settings
• Costume
• Props
Positioning of the furniture, to suit with the characters actions and add significance to the scene.
NARRATIVE (PLOT)
Narrative in other words a ‘plot’ is the start up to making up a story, where with our thriller
movie ‘Abducted’ we collected each scene we recorded or parts and put them together to
make a story. Same with ‘silence of the lamb’ you can see that they had a lot of cut-away
shots and cut-in shots to give more effect with their story. Plots are put together because
they all link together and make sense.
CHALLENGES TO THE GAME
Our film challenged the overall genre in many different aspects. Overall I feel that some parts
did not function well together but with re-filming parts that we felt that weren’t done to the
extent it should’ve we managed to re-film this. At some parts of our product you can see
that some parts didn’t function well but that’s where we had cut-in shots being taken
place, allowing the audience to be aware of what is happening and still understand the
    movie.
I believe that we have followed the genre conventions exactly the way we should’ve and the
reason for this is so that the audience will feel comfortable and understand the story line
of each plot that we have put together to make this product finish.
