2. • Cinematography- There is a use of mid shots and close ups to show the
expression of the characters. It also allows you to see the details such as
the person’s eye. It also shows extreme close ups to show the horror and
to create a idea of chaos as the consumer cannot fully see what they are
watching.
• Editing- There has been as use of type writing to show the audience who
the director is for example. The cuts between each shot is very fast paced
as to create tension on what is going to happen next. There is also a use
of fade outs so the images go black which is the colour associated with
horror.
• Sound- Non diegetic music plays throughout the trailer which sounds like
children singing a nursery rhyme, this is done to create an eerie feel and
to build the tension. The key action parts of the trailer that are designed
to make the audience jump use louder non diegetic sound to emphasise
the action.
• Mise En Scene- Use of dark and low lighting is used throughout to show
the horror genre. There is also the use of fire to show that the film is full
of action which connotes with the horror genre.
4. • Cinematography- The cameras chosen to film has been done by home video cameras
to create a more realistic look to the film. The hand held camera gives us a distorted
look during some shots within the trailer which shows a chaotic feel to the trailer
which emphasises the horror genre. There are also flashbacks and over the shoulder
point of view shots to give the audience an insight into the trailer.
• Editing- Each shot has been edited to give a sort of fuzzy and distorted feel to give a
chaotic atmosphere which connotes with the horror genre. There are also motivated
cuts which links back with previous films which shows synergy.
• Sound- There are voiceovers which has been edited and distorted which gives a
nervous atmosphere which adds to the typical horror genre feel. The non diegetic
sound of the broken up film camera is used to create suspense on what happens next.
• Mise En Scene- The overall feel of the trailer is very dark, light is also used to
emphasise the scary aspects within the trailer. The use of everyday clothes and home
cameras makes it seem very realistic makes the audience believe that this could
happen to them in their own home.
6. • Cinematography- The trailer starts with an establishing shot in order for the audience
to know where the scene is being set. The room is old, tattered and destroyed which
creates and eerie look which follows the horror genre. There are close ups and mid
shots in order to show the characters expressions. There are low angles on the old
house in order to show how haunted it is.
• Editing- There are transitions used such as fade outs which leaves a black screen which
is typical of a horror trailer. Motivated cuts are used from the words of ‘house’ and
‘woman’ and then cut to those characters to show the audience who they are. There
are short takes throughout to show the fast pace of the film which speeds up the
tension and suspense.
• Sound- Children and nursery rhyme are usually used in horror trailers to create a scary
feel to show the genre of the film. The non diegetic sound of children's toys is constant
throughout to create tension but cuts out when the screen goes black.
• Mise En Scene- The overall mise en scene of the horror trailer is old, dark and death
which are all common features of the horror genre. The Christ's cross is also an
important part of the trailer which is also a typical convention of a horror trailer which
creates a scary location to emphasise the plot.
