2. What is Sorbitol?
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol , which is a poorly
digestible carbohydrate that either naturally occurs
in fruits or is semi-artificially produced and added as
a low calorie sweetener to various commercial
foods.
Sorbitol chemically similar to fructose and mannitol .
Other names for sorbitol: Sorbit, Glucitol.
4. Sorbitol properties
• A white crystalline powder 60% as sweet as sucrose with a strong
cooling effect.

• Very hygroscopic – readily attracts moisture

• A good humectant – helps food products to resist

• Solubility in water at 25 C

• Melting point = 207° F (97° C) .

Fruits that contain sorbitol include
Apples,Pears,Peaches, Apricots, Nectarines; and
dried fruits,
such as Prunes, Dates,Raisins etc.
**Sugar-free candy contains between 35 to 95
grams of sorbitol per serving.
**A stick of sugar-free gum contains up to 2 grams
of the sugar alcohol.

8. Benefit's of Sorbitol
