7. 6. Backing of the specimen:
The hardness of the backing material given for the specimen can effect the result.
In some test a hard backing is used, in others a felt or foam rubber.
7. Cleanliness of the specimen and instrument:
The region where abrasion taking place should be handled minimum. The abrading
region should be free from foreign matters such as wax, graphite etc. otherwise
they will act as lubricants and affect the endpoint.
8. Tension on the Specimen:
Standardized methods of mounting the specimen should be used to avoid errors
due to variation in the tension used.
