AUTHOR GUIDELINES: 2014 TLHEC PROCEEDINGS
The ANNUAL UKZN TEACHING & LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION CONFERENCE (TLHEC) is an annual gathering of academics, researchers and policymakers to showcase innovation, generate debate, theorise opportunities and challenges in teaching and learning. The conference also provides a platform for disseminating higher education and institutional research findings. Submissions are invited from experienced and novice researchers, scholars and practitioners in Higher Education institutions from the Continent and beyond.
Delegates are invited to submit their abstracts of not more than 300 words to be considered for the conference proceedings. Listed below are the author guidelines and the time frames.
First call – authors submitting abstracts during this call will also be invited to submit full papers to be considered in a special edition of a SAPSE accredited journal and/or conference proceedings: DEADLINE for abstracts 28 March 2014.
Second call – authors submitting abstracts during this call will also be invited to submit full papers to be considered for inclusion in the conference proceedings: DEADLINE for abstracts 25 April 2014.
Only responses to the first 2 calls will be considered for the Conference proceedings. Delegates are invited to submit their abstracts to be considered for the conference proceedings by 25 April 2014. Authors of successful abstract submissions will then be invited to submit full papers on or before 25 July 2014, for peer review.
No late submissions will be considered.
Points to remember:
• Send all full paper submissions as a MS Word document to Dr Jaya Naidoo at utlo@ukzn.ac.za
• All full paper submissions must reach Dr Jaya Naidoo by NO LATER THAN 25 July 2014
• Your submission will be subjected to a “double blind” peer review process and returned to you, if accepted, for corrections by 24August 2014
• The final submission must be sent by 10 September 2014 after which the final editing process will take place
• The submission must be in Arial 12 font using 1.5 spacing throughout and double spacing between paragraphs
• The margin settings should be set to “normal”: 2.54 cm all round, set in A4
• The submission must be between 3000 and 5000 words in length
2. • Illustrations (including photographs, sketches, tables, maps, etc.) must be numbered consecutively (for example: Table 1 or Figure 1) and be inserted in the text with a proper caption above the table or below the figure
• APA 6th referencing style must be used throughout the text
• The title of the submission should not exceed 15 words in length and should be typed in capital letters and highlighted in bold
• The title should be followed by your initials and surname; the details of your discipline and your Institution
• This must be followed by the 300 word abstract and five key words
• Headings should be in sentence case, bold and numbered consecutively
• The following headings is a rough guideline for the paper: Introduction; Literature Review; Theoretical and Conceptual Framework; Methodology; Ethical Issues; Data Analysis; Findings and Discussion and Conclusion (Although you can be creative within these guidelines the essence of these sub-headings MUST appear in the submission)
• Page numbers starting from 1 must be inserted at the bottom right hand side of the page
• As the author you bear full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, logic of the argument and technical details of your submission (plagiarism will not be tolerated)
• Submissions not adhering to the above guidelines will not be considered for publication
