2. Superovulation
Superovulation: is release of multiple eggs at
the single estrus.
•Superovulation consists of a hormonal treatment
to promote recruitment and development of
several follicles to the preovulation stage.
• The goal is to eliminate any dominant follicle and improve the
number of ovulations in a cycle.
3. Superovulation
• Superovulation is achieved by eliminating the inhibitory mechanism
of the dominant follicle (immunization against inhibin) or by
promoting development of a subordinate follicle using follicle-
stimulating gonadotropins.
4.
5. Advantages of superovulation:
• For embryo transfer programs
1. For estrus synchronization programs
2. Superovulation could shorten the generation interval by a
year or more.
3. Increase animal population
4. Female reproductive soundness or tolerance
5.Economic reasons for the owners
6. Principles of superovulation:
1.Stimulate extensive follicular development through the
use of hormones preparation
2.Obtain maximum number of fertilized and transferable
embryos with high probability of producing pregnancies
7. Hormonal methods
• Including use shoots alone/or during protocols of
following hormone:
• FSH
• PMSG
• hCG
• eCG
• PGF2α
8. Superovulation in Doe
1.In goat FSH and PMSG mostly used
2.The injection of multiple injection of FSH on the latest 3-4 days
of progesterone treatment
3.FSH injection every 12 hours
4.When PMSG is used single injection 24-48 prior to CIDR
removal is administrated
5.Dose of PMSG dose is about 500 IU
9.
10. Superovulation in ewes
• PMSG usually given 48-72 before progesterone
removal
• A combination of FSH and eCG has been used in
superovulation program
• eCG is widely used in ewes
11.
12. Factors affecting superovulation response:
1.Physiological status of the animal
2.Age
3.Breed
4.Nutrition
5.Body condition
6.Hormonal preparation
7.Status of dominant follicle
8.Climate change
9.Using of additional hormone
10.Seasonal and duration time of treatment
13.
14. Factors affecting superovulation response:
• Unovulated follicle detected when use eCG
• Because its half life about 5 d so follicle continuo to grow up
• This growth lead to increase estrogen hormone level and
disturb fertilization mechanism and female genital system and
fallopian tube environment and sperm passage to oocyte and
embryos.
