Most school districts have a LMS tool that is helpful with communication between
faculty and staff.
Learning Management System (LMS) benefit all of those involved
o Students can use it for homework, additional assignments, communication with
the teacher, grades, and many other ways.
o Teachers can use LMS to post grades, chat with students, update assignments, and
seemingly, a million other different things.
Hopefully, teachers are educating themselves on the technology so they can bring it to the
kids in an informative and relatable manner.
At The Bolles School, they use a similar platform to Jacksonville University’s LMS,
Blackboard, the LMS, EdLine.
The service is offered to the entire school district.
o Whitehurst Campus (Elementary School)
o Ponte Vedra Campus (Elementary School)
o Bartram Campus (Middle School)
o San Jose Campus (High School)
The EdLine service is a free resource.
o However, nothing is really free at Bolles. Tuition is over $20,000.
Some background information on the organization, The Bolles School.
o Established in 1933 as a military school for boys in grades 7-12, Bolles dropped
its military affiliation in 1962 and became coeducational in 1971.
2. o The independent school is governed by a self perpetuating Board of Trustees.
o Fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Southern
Association of Independent Schools, Florida Council for Independent Schools,
and Florida Kindergarten Council.
o Memberships in the National Association of Independent Schools, the Council for
the Advancement and Support of Education, and the Florida High School Athletic
Association, among others.
o The School is recognized locally by the Jacksonville Historical Society and the
City of Jacksonville and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
o Bolles students are actively involved in the local community and host or provide
countless community service hours and events each year.
o Approximately 85% of our students participate in over 100 performances and
gallery openings within the Fine and Performing Arts Department each year.
o 41 Sports Teams—the student body regularly approaches or exceeds 90%
participation in one or more sport.
EdLine is an online student community.
o It is known as the heart of the learning community.
It is a site for both Bolles students, and faculty.
Similar to our BlackBoard, it allows students access to assignments, course documents,
grades, and other valuable academic information.
Edline, the company, is now a division of Blackboard.
o The new name for the division is Blackboard Engage.
We are living in an increasingly paperless world.
3. o This has helped streamlined communication and made websites like EdLine vital
to the success of students.
Unfortunately, as a part time teacher I do not have access to EdLine and cannot log in.
However, I was able to retrieve information on the site.
o The new Learning Management System (LMS) from Edline—the first truly
integrated website communication platform for K-12 school districts and their
learning communities.
o More schools choose Edline as their website provider than any other solution on
the market.
o Millions of teachers, parents and students rely on Edline every single day for
sharing and accessing critical information.
o Exceptionally designed District/School/Classroom websites with intuitive
multimedia capabilities that make managing websites a breeze.
o Leading-edge Learning Management and Classroom Solutions include Web 2.0
tools, Quizzes, Forms, Surveys and Grade books - allowing for dynamic online
classrooms.
o Built-in Notification Solutions that translate in 20+ languages are fully integrated
with your website communication strategy, enabling routine and emergency
communication.
o In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, a student described Edline as the
reason he was able to keep up with his studies, graduate high school and get
accepted into college.
4. o 96% of parents surveyed in one of Florida's largest school districts believe they
are in a better position to help students thrive as a result of the district's
implementation of Edline's Learning Management System (LMS).
It is an interactive site where students can do work.
Learning Management Systems are a completely necessary, effective resource for not
only schools, but also organizations to use too=.
