Job Overview:
Responsible for operations of the Presidio lawn and turf care, operations and maintenance of 297
acres. The responsibilities include: turf/plant material maintenance program, renter/tenants
relations, scheduling/maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide/herbicide applications, related
recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues. The Turf/Lawn Superintendent works to create
an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect
for themselves, tenants, guests and the park.
Basic Functions:
Responsible for all phases of turf/lawn maintenance and agronomic operations, costs of
materials.
Work closely with, advises, and coordinates with the horticultural manager on any issues
related to turf/lawn maintenance.
Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.
Assists in landscape/ball field planning.
Work closely with the GM/CEO/Supervisor to operate the Presidio in a fiscally responsible
and professional manner.
Must be able to work independently and be a self-starting problem solver
Primary Duties:
Oversee the care and maintenance of all turf/lawns and sports fields.
Direct and assist the staff on seeding, the replacement of sod, spraying, mowing, the
preparation of soil plant beds, and the tending to high stress areas.
Manages and assist the irrigation team on an aggressive water usage tracking plan and
irrigation systems and provides monthly reports on retaining wells and other water source
usage.
Facilitates technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is
working within OSHA, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
Oversees subordinates in the proper safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and
power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
Maintains records and completes required reports. Order parts, supplies and equipment as
needed.

2. Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical and applications
(fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides) on Presidio grounds in compliance with all local, state
and federal regulations.
Schedules maintenance practices around tenants, renters and special events, to maximize
efficiency and minimize disruption to the general public.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Knowledge of management and maintenance of all turf and lawns, rough areas and
roadsides.
Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in turf/lawn
construction and maintenance work.
Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.
Interpersonal skill to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, officials, employees, tenants
and the general public.
Knowledge of all sporting activities and methods of play.
Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to turf/lawn
maintenance and repair assignments.
Ability and knowledge to lay irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct and build infields
from grass and red dirt.
Minimum Qualifications:
3-5 years experience as Head greens keeper or 1st Assistant.
2-years Degree or Certificate in Turf Management (or related field, like agronomy,
horticulture, plant science, soil science)
Computer skills required for reporting and control of operations, including use of Microsoft
Office Suite.
Valid Driver’s License.
Pesticide Application License.
