1. How effective is the combination of your main productand your ancillary task?
I feel as though within my overall album cover, magazine posterand music
video there was good syngery with there being a common theme throughout
which linked them all together well. This is what would make it popular to the
age group that was targeted with it being 16-24 year olds.
There was continuity throughout my main productand my ancillary tasks
through the use of different settings with there being the common theme of
abandonment as well as dilapidation. My album cover was that of an old, rusted
Triumph car and through the use of shots of the rubbish dump as seen on the
inside cover, there is the continued theme and synergy from the main music
video which was filmed within an abandoned hippodrome. This shows how
there was a good combination between the two ancillaries and the music video a
to a member of the public who may have seen the music video, could associate
it to the album posterbecause of the rustic style with the poster being on an
empty beach (difficult to see due to the blur added) and could easily be
distinguished as the artist’s style as there is the cross media convergence from
music video to paper advert as there is the clear style of abandonment and
emptiness seen within bothtasks. This links to the song in question with the
music talking of being alone due to one member in a relationship ruining it, it
continues the motif of being lonely across the platforms. This is effective due to
the fact that it is easily distinguishable due to the colour scheme attached to the
main productand ancillaries which is an iconic light grey and black, with the
black and white filter being put on all 3 tasks to create the colour effect it
harmonizes the colours and shows a clear synergy in the colour scheme
throughout.
Dyer’s star theory states that stars are constructed so that audiences can
seemingly relate and it’s not generally what you see being what you get. To an
extent I challenged this within my ancillary tasks, this is due to the fact that the
artist (Torre Florim being portrayed by Sam Gravett on the poster) is the person
behind the music video. The artist. This adds a sense of personality to the music
and the fact that he is seen on the postercreates rapport with an artist seeing his
actual face and it makes it seem more personal to an audience. This links to my
main productdue to the fact that it is all a performance with the audio being
dubbed over by Sam Gravett’s Torre Florim character. To an active audience
some might say that it is a reflection on the artist’s personal experiences, not
wanting to play the character himself having the reasoning behind it. On the
other hand, the use of Torre Florim within
At the very start of my music video, I incorporated a bold somewhat simplistic
style of font, this was later matched in my first ancillary task with the title of the
album being in the same font which was bold and simplistic. The fact that there
was the cross media convergence through the use of the same font to write
“Firestarter” as well as “TRIUMPH” shows the fact that there is the
2. connotations of the simplistic style as to not take away from the music. The fact
that they are so simple is so audiences don’tget the voyeurism from the
beautiful fonts and it would have no link to the music video or overall style of
my ancillary or music video. The font is simplistic and works well with the
location of that being abandoned as well as dilapidated as the mise en scene
would be spoiled by too compelx of a font and the synergy across the two tasks.
The texts reinforce eachother with the idea of simplicity being better than a
more complex idea being a better thing. The album cover can be seen as rather
simplistic but it works together with the poster to be seen as iconic in the image
of the artist.
