1. AS Media Evaluation – Preliminary Task<br />For this preliminary task I created a magazine cover and a content page, I named my magazine “College News” and aimed it at students. I was inspired in the making of the front cover by other magazines. My magazine uses and develops real news stories and gossips. It would include local student news about their colleges and university and also more general media products and news that may impact student’s life.<br />My media product does not represent any particular social groups. I wanted it to be as diverse as possible, and to talk on behalf of students. My products represent every student I achieved it by the choice of stories and articles. I featured a lot of articles about finance and loans to represents many students who won’t have as much money as other social groups.<br />I believe many different media institution would distribute my product. Tabloids and other newspapers might offer it as a supplement because it would attract a different kind of target audience. Any tabloid would distribute my product to target student, but also to influence students into different political groups or perhaps to influence them to buy a certain product. Universities would also distribute my product as it would contain relevant information about universities and coping with this new experience.<br />My target audience for my magazine was college and university student. I wanted my magazine to appeal to both gender and diverse social groups. I chose older students as my target group because I believe they would be more likely to be interested in student news and read student magazines. I also wanted my magazine to keep a serious and more professional look. However to target teenagers and young adults I used a lot of colours as well as keeping a serious and professional look.<br />I attracted my audience when designing my cover; I used photos of students and the stories where all students related. I also named my magazine “College News” because the name itself shows what my product is about. I called it “News” because even if it is a student magazine, because I wanted to make it more serious. However the colours used gave my magazine a more laidback look to appeal to most students.<br />In the making of this preliminary task I learned how to layout my fronts cover. I found it difficult because the format of the picture meant that I could not overlap them. I also wanted to have one big picture to cover the whole of my front cover; however it made the picture very blurry.If I had to do this task again I would change programme and use “Microsoft Publisher” as it will be easier to layout everything as I want it to be. I would also spend a longer time on my front cover picture and look for a good one that would cover the whole frame. I used to many pictures for my front cover and it looks very busy. <br />
