A luminaire that can
eliminate the blue component of light
MIXCOLOR
Based on scientific research, which shows that blue light is detrimental
to us at night time, we have developed a new luminaire. This public ligh-
ting luminaire can autonomously regulate light intensity and colour
temperature during the night.
BLUE LIGHT:
Blue light is light with a wavelength of 450–480 nanometres. It is useful to us
during the day when we want to maintain our concentration, for example, at
work or school. In the evening, however, we should be exposed to it as little as
possible.
MELATONIN:
The hormone melatonin, which is respon-
sible for the quality of our sleep, forms in
our body in response to the type of light
affecting us at different stages of the day.
This hormone drives our inner clock. If we
are exposed to blue light in the evening
before bedtime or during the night, it has
a negative effect on our health.
HISTORY:
This problem is quite new!
If we look back 15 years:
• we used lamps with tungsten bulbs,
which do not have a blue light component
• mobile phones had green displays
• high-pressure sodium lamps in public
lighting did not have a blue light
component
NATURAL CYCLE:
In the figure, we can see the natural cycle
and melatonin levels of day and night. We
have been accustomed to this for thou-
sands of years. Artificial sources of illumi-
nation, however, disturb this natural cycle,
especially LED lighting, because most
LEDs have a blue light component which
is detrimental to us in the evening and at
night.

2. 4000K is best suited for use in heavy
pedestrian and vehicle traffic to ensure opti-
mal illumination and safety. At night though,
it is advisable to reduce lighting intensity in
order to achieve the greatest possible
savings. We also use a colour temperature
of 2200K to eliminate the blue component,
which is harmful to us at night.
We can adjust autonomous colour
temperature and dimming accor-
ding to the customer’s needs.
However, we consider the schedule
below to be the most suitable, idea-
lly mimicking the natural daily cycle
as well as providing energy savings.
