2. Hormones are chemical substance produced in the body that
controls and regulates the activity of certain cells or organs.
It is an organic substances secreted by both plants and animals
that regulate physiological activities and maintain homeostasis.
A homeostasis is a condition wherein the body is in a stable
internal environment. Our body is constantly working hard to
maintain internal conditions.
3. Female Hormones
1. Estrogens – These are substances that bring the cyclical onset of heat
which makes the female sexually active and receptive to male.
Estrogen helps control the menstrual cycle and is important for
childbearing. Estrogen also has other functions: Keeps cholesterol in control.
Protects bone health for both women and men. Affects your brain (including
mood), bones, heart, skin, and other tissues.
2. Progestins – Progesterone prepares the endometrium for the potential
of pregnancy after ovulation. It triggers the lining to thicken to accept a
fertilized egg. It also prohibits the muscle contractions in the uterus that
cause the body to reject an egg.
4. MALE REPRODUCTIVE PROCESS
Puberty signals the development of males when sexual organs
mature, the testes enlarge and sperm production begins. The
increase in the secretion of testosterone leads to the
development of secondary sexual traits.
5. Male Hormones
1. Androgens – Secreted by the testes, androgens are responsible for the
maintenance of male characteristics and behavior.
a. FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) – This is secreted from the
pituitary gland which stimulates the growth of the seminiferous tubules and
promotes cell division that results in production of mature sperm.
b. LH (luteinizing hormone) or ICHS (interstitial cell stimulating
hormone) – promote the development of the endocrine tissue within the
testes.
2. Testosterone – The most important androgen. Aside from maintaining
male characteristics, male behavior and spermatic tubules, in the presence of
normal amounts of growth hormones, it promotes growth of bony skeleton.
A "male hormone" -- a sex hormone produced by the testes.
