Woods Bagot’s psychological
and environmental approach to building
planning and design led to a scheme
for Tech Linx that focuses on people
and place, which are fundamental Feng
Shui principles and has defined the design
solution for water and east-west layout.

2. The German software company Tech Linx
proposes to develop its corporate
headquarters at Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
The brief calls for a business park that
is environmentally sound whilst being
modern, hi-tech and intelligent.
Woods Bagot proposed a variety of
multi-storey office buildings within
a landscaped campus, giving each stage
a distinctive character, yet there is
a unifying design philosophy through out
the whole scheme. The campus layout
creates an enclosure yet does not turn
it’s back on the surrounding Cyberjaya
landscape. The entry to the site, the central
public garden/plaza and the ground floor
of all buildings, are on the same level
as the streetscape which creates
welcoming public spaces. The public
is able to see and walk right through
the site from east to west.

The building forms emphasize the inter
connection between people in the work
place. Each building is designed to
maximize the effects of natural ventilation
in the tropics while providing a comfortable
and functional work environment.
Features such as centralized thermal
atriums increase the thermal buoyancy
needed to draw air through the building
for ventilative cooling if the weather
permits while extensive external shading
are
used to reduce thermal gain through solar
penetration. The intelligent facade has
automated windows allowing purge
ventilation through the building
The landscaping plays an important role
as an integrated component to the
environmental strategy of Tech Linx.
Vegetation types are local indigenous
species, creating a recreational
environment that is also a sustainable
micro-ecosystem reminiscent of the natural
habitat of Cyberjaya prior to development.
Extensive foliage and canopy provides
shading to hard paved surfaces while
the artificial lake water is used as mobile
heat sink by means of duct work under
paving materials, removing heat build-up,
reducing the effects of radiant heat.
