9. Thinking ahead is great, planning ahead is exceptional. Don’t be
defensive, be offensive.
All great teams fail. The great teams learn quickly from their
mistakes and make sure they don’t happen again. Don’t try to
hide or be defensive about issues…..expose and fix them.
Keep it upbeat. We should enjoy what we do and the people we
do it with. Celebrate your accomplishments. Stay focused on
the goal and a successful outcome.
Keep your eye on the ball. Don’t get lost in the weeds. Know
what is important and keep moving forward.
Take time to carefully form and build the team. Lack of a team
dynamic is the #1 reason teams fail. Be approachable. Attack
problems and issues….not people.
Communicate up, down and across and do it often. Make
communication easy. Equally share the good news as well as
the bad. Listen and you might learn something.

Throughout the course of my career, I have found that people are the success
to any great company. Cultivating the right set of skills in a team is key to
mission success. These skills include:
Avoid assumptions or opinion. Gather the data and get to the
facts. Be honest with yourself and others. Deal in facts and
analysis. If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.
