SOLVING INEQUALITIES BY ADDITION OR SUBTRACTION
Min Math
Review
7.EE.4
Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or
mathematical problems, and construct simple equations and
inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
7.EE.4b
Solve word problems leading to inequalities of the form px+q>r or
px+q<r where p, q, and r are specific rational numbers. Graph the
solution set, and interpret it in the context of the problem

Dylan has $18 to ride go-karts and play games at
the state fair. Suppose the go-karts cost $5.00.
Write and solve an inequality to find the most he
can spend on games.
There were a total of 125 cars at a car dealership. A
salesperson sold 68 of the cars in one month. Write
and solve an inequality that describes how many more
cars, at most, the salesman has left to sell. Interpret
the solution.
Your Turn!!!
The FLMS soccer team can have no more than 26
players. Write and solve a inequality to determine
how many ore players can make the team if the
coach has already chosen 17 players.

TIME TO GET CREATIVE!
• Create your own one-step inequality.
• Trade with your partner & solve each others inequality.
• Trade back & check each others work.
ADVANCE YOUR LEARNING:
EXPLAIN HOW GRAPHING A LINEAR
INEQUALITY HELPS US UNDERSTAND THE
INEQUALITY. USE AN EXAMPLE IN YOUR
EXPLANATION.
ON YOUR OWN
Complete the practice page on your own.
Make sure to show your work.
Keep when finished and have a red pen/pencil
ready to check.
CREATE YOUR OWN MATCHING GAME
• IN GROUPS OF THREE,
• Create 10 inequalities with matching solutions and graphs.
• Make sure you “proofread” inequalities for mistakes and make any
necessary corrections.
• Cut them out (you should have 30 pieces)
• Trade with another group
EXIT TICKET
1. How is solving an inequality similar to solving an
equation?
2. Solve and graph: 10 < 𝑏 − 8
3. Write and solve an inequality for the following phrase:
eight less than a number is less than ten.
