myTUTor
Using Turnitin in myTUTor Setting up of class and enrolment of students done automatically

Plagiarism and Copyright
Plagiarism is not the same as copyright infringement (different concepts)
Plagiarism = an attempt to present someone else’s work, ideas, expressions, etc. as one’s
own work
Copyright infringement = a violation of the rights of a copyright holder, when material
restricted by copyright is used without consent.
Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty or academic fraud, and offenders are normally
subject to disciplinary proceedings.

Academic misconduct in any form is a violation of Student Rules
and Regulations and the Disciplinary Code and will not be
tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to: copying or sharing
answers on tests or assignments, plagiarism, and having someone
else do your academic work. You could be suspended or expelled
from the TUT. Please see the Student Rules and Regulations and
the Disciplinary Code.

Using the Turnitin website :: Add a Class
After logging in, click Add ClassAdd Class

Enter class name, enrolment password, select end date
Click SubmitSubmit

Class ID and enrolment password is furnished. Keep this safe.
Click ContinueContinue

Click the class nameclass name to create assignments

Click Add AssignmentAdd Assignment

Click Add Assignment
Select assignment type

Enter the following information:
Title, Point Value, Start date, Due Date and Time, Post Date and Time

Click the StudentStudent tab to enrol students
Then click Add StudentAdd Student

Enter student information

To upload a Student list, first create a list in
MS Excel
Click Upload Student ListUpload Student List

Browse for file and click Upload ListUpload List

Click Yes, SubmitYes, Submit

Click Return to StudentsReturn to Students

Click ViewView to access the Assignment Inbox

Using the Turnitin website :: Download papers
To download files click the file icon

Select a file format

Save the file to your computer

Bulk download:
Check the appropriate boxes
Click DownloadDownload

Using the Turnitin website :: Originality Report
Don’t make the mistake of interpreting a report by saying that if a
report shows a percentage of 10% or lower (or any total for that
matter) it is acceptable
You have to look at each instance of unoriginality
Then only pass judgment on the paper and take necessary actions

To view an originality report click, click the SimilaritySimilarity icon

Using Turnitin in myTUTor :: Creating an assignment
Open the course in which to upload Turnitin
Click on the Create AssessmentCreate Assessment Tab

Click the Turnitin AssignmentTurnitin Assignment link

Type in the assignment title and give a point value e.g. 100
Choose the start date, due date and post date and time for the
assignment to be uploaded.

Click on MMore Optionsore Options and tick the radio buttons as indicated

Tick the radio buttons as indicated
Click SubmitSubmit

The Turnitin Assignment is added to your course
Click OKOK

Using Turnitin in myTUTor :: Student View
The Turnitin link here is named Literature Review
Student clicks on the link to submit his assignment

The student is asked to click in the field which states that he/she is
older than 13 years and then clicks on the I agreeI agree button

The student clicks SubmitSubmit

The student enters his information
for submission: name, surname and
the title of the assignment
The assignment is uploaded via the
browse button.
If the document appears in the
browse window the student can
upload the document.

A preview is given and the student can submit the assignment to
Turnitin

A preview of the paper is given
The student then clicks on Go to PortfolioGo to Portfolio

The student will receive an e-mail that his assignment is uploaded

Using Turnitin in myTUTor :: Originality Report
The status of the Turnitin report is visible after a while.
To view the report click on the titlethe title of the assignment

To view the originality report the student/lecturer clicks on the OriginalityOriginality
tab
The resource text(left hand block) is indicated in the same colour as the
resource title on the right hand block

Students as well as lecturers can see the where plagiarism took place

Using Turnitin in myTUTor :: Grading & Comments
To add comments and grades to the Assignment,
Click on the GradeMarkGradeMark Tab

1. Click next to text in the assignment and
2. then on the comment tab.
3. Type your comment into the comment box

Using Turnitin in myTUTor : Grading & Comments
Or choose one of the prepared commonly used comments

To add your mark move the cursor over the Grade box and type
in the mark e.g. 75
