The first frame we see is of a totally blank screen. This has connotations of a horror and adds suggests the
generic theme of evil and darkness. This also suggests that not much is given away within the opening titles
as there is not much which is shown on screen. In addition the titles and credits which appear on screen over
the darkness of the background come onto the screen red then slowly change to orange. This red colour
again links with the generic theme of a horror as it has connotations of death and blood. However also the
orange colours which then appear also have connotations with horror especially teen halloween horrors as
the orange symbolises the pumpkin which is a symbol of halloween. As the titles progress we see a flickering
pumpkin appear this, however the image of the pumpkin is slightly distorted as it fades from the darkness.
The symbol of the pumpkin again has connotations of halloween and scaring people, it is also used to
decorate houses during halloween and in this case it is being used to decorate the frame and add to the
theme of horror which the titles create. As the sequence continues the image of the pumpkin becomes more
predominant on screen until it dominates half the frame and takes most of the attention away from the
credits. This progression of the pumpkin dominating the screen could refer to the progression of the element
of halloween within the film and the progression of the horror elements, because as the pumpkin dominates
the frame it then becomes black until it fades into the darkness of the background which has the most
connotations with the generic theme of horror.
