Hour 3
Day 1:
Today is the first day in the city of Los Angeles and I have looking at some places to live.
For now I’m staying in the Rodeway Inn at 6340 Santa Fe Ave, Huntington Park, CA 90255,
until I can find a good place to live.
Day 2:
I have decided to live in the Sunrise Villas apartments on 5125 S Main St, Los Angeles,
CA, which is in the Zone of Independent Workers, I am going to move there next month. I have
also decided to work in the Computer Plus Los Angeles at 3240 Wilshire Blvd #117, Los
Angeles, CA 9001. I really think this is a good place for me to work because I enjoy working with
computers a lot. I have a friend who lives somewhat nearby that has agreed to help me get to
work until I can get a good mode of transportation. I did find that there is a Grey Hounds Lines in
the city so I might try to see if I can ride a bus to work.
Day 3:
I saw a story on the news this morning about the problem of sprawl in big urban areas,
whatever that is. I looked it up and sprawl refers to the migration of a population from populated
towns and cities to low density residential development over more and more rural land. The end
result is the spreading of a city and its suburbs over more and more rural land. I looked up the
sprawl in Los Angeles and found that the “LA metro area is now the twenty-first least sprawly
place in the US, and the seventh least sprawly among metropolitan areas with more than one
million residents” (curbed.com).
Day 4:
I was walking downtown today and remembered what I learned about smart growth in
high school. Smart growth means building urban, suburban and rural communities with housing
and transportation choices near jobs, shops and schools. This was present downtown because
there were sidewalks for people to walk to the shops in the area from where they could live in
the urban city.
Day 5:
I was looking online this morning for places I could go for some entertainment. I found
that there is a bowling alley at 3255 W 4th St, Los Angeles, CA 90020 and there is a movie
theater called the Vista Theatre at 4473 Sunset Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90027. I had also looked
for a place where I could further my education in Computer Sciences. I found a private
university at 3424 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010, called Pacific States University. If I
went there I would be in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems or Master of
Science in Computer Science programs.
Day 6:
I wanted to send a letter to my family back in Minnesota instead of emailing them. I
found out that there is a Post Office at 265 S Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90004. So this
afternoon I will go to send the letter. Afterwards I think I’ll go to the Wilshire Library at 149 St
Andrews Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90004, to find a book to read in my free time. I also thought I
spotted a McDonald's on my first day, so I looked it up and there is one at 1007 N Western Ave
2. Los Angeles, CA 90029. That I think I’ll go to for supper tonight.
