FM: Let’s start right at the beginning. What was your first love, modeling or acting?
Or was it a different art form?
MP: My strongest passion and love has always been acting. Modeling has been a part of
my life because I always interacted with fashion and beautiful people due to my job. I just
never thought that it would be my stepping stone. But it has. I have always worked hard to
keep my head up high and build my self up in the respect of being a model in hopes that
acting would follow in this path . Working towards it will always be the best struggle in
my life, to make sure I achieve my love and passion of acting.
FM: Tell us how growing up in Canada played a role in your career?
MP: Growing up in Canada is like growing up anywhere in the world. Making your own
mark is what makes you the person you are, and it helped build me into who I am as a
person today. My career has been forever growing and has given me a positive outlook
on life and ,what is more important, to making me overcome any obstacles I have come
across. Being a Canadian and working in Canada gave me chances in working with
UNION jobs in the filming world with the creativity of my occupational skills and achiev-
ing more than I could ever ask for. It is a beautiful country, and I love all that the endless
opportunities and chances for myself as an artist to build my name and get my career
started. Being a Canadian has taught me so much about being the person I am , giving me
the chance to work with amazing Canadian acting coaches, also with building a portfolio
of credits with incredible Canadian talents as well seeing Canadians really grow and make
a strong name for themselves. I love being a Canadian and see a road of possibilities that
Canada has to offer me!
FM: Models that are also actors, often say that acting helps them get into characters for
photo shoots. How has your modeling experience help your acting in any way?
MP: Modeling is an art, and people say all the time “modeling isn’t a career. It doesn’t
teach you anything!” I believe that’s incorrect and have seen models work hard, be ded-
icated and have the experience to build a look from what the outfit is portraying. It’s an
art, and I can say strongly that I believe it has helped me grow as an actor. What I mean
by that is the clothes I have worn have had character. They have a charismatic out look
,and each look tells a story, revealing the passion through the models eyes! I have been
in creative looks that were out of my comfort zone giving me an eye opener as an actor.
I worked very hard in shoots, fashion shows and modeling gigs, and all these learning
experiences that I have had have given me confidence and made me more ambitious in
the roles I have portrayed and helped me grow more and more as an actor.
FM: UNTOLD. This is so interesting; I’m
excited to ask you about this.
Can share with us your involvement in this
project and how it all got started?
MP: Well the movie’s called ‘Untold’. And I
got into it with a great friend, Johnny Lissoos,
who happens to be in the film as well as a
photographer and videographer. We discussed
once about building our career and building
a name for one another. So we were togeth-
er one evening, and we were talking about
making a film that would make a difference
and showcase each of our talents, that would
tell a story that would come from both of our
hearts in different ways but yet honest to one
another and of course reveals our past, present
and future lives. So he happened to have an
original poem which he had written, out of the
200 poems he had. When I read this poem, I
fell in love and said we need to go further and
see what we need to do to incorporate it into
a film. Working with connections I had made
during the past years while working in the film
world, I came up with the idea to produce a
film with a production team and with a low
budget, I mean very low budget. I was able
to create a one of a kind piece with help of
a wonderful team. I was able to get a full on
production team on board: makeup ; hair;
wardrobe; set; stage lighting; camera; pho-
tographers;videographers; actors and project
manager. I was involved as a co-producer ,
co-writer , co-director and management team
operator, and ,as what really mattered to me
the most, getting to play the Lead Role Actor
in UNTOLD .
FM: We’re going to flip back to Modeling for a
moment. We love Christopher Bates and want
to know what it was like to work with him and
what’s your favorite piece you own?
MP: Christopher Bates is a wonderful design-
er and very creative. Working with him for
the Untold premier was great ! He was terrific
and made my experiences with him a joy.
We laughed a lot and became great friends. We
both had worked hard to create the best look
for what I wanted, He had an eye for that and
really made me feel comfortable . I loved my-
self in a leather piece with an original designed
jacket he had created. It really made me feel
like a movie star! That was the my favourite
piece
FM: What was your experience like in New
York City in terms of the Fashion Industry and
how do you feel it influenced your personal
style?
MP: NewYork, NewYork, what a city!! New
York Fashion was incredible and over the top.
Seeing people walk the streets and seeing the
diversity of people cross my paths was sensa-
tional. What I found being there is that every
fashion had a story to tell , I really felt I was a
part of a library, story after story about the way
people carried their own wardrobes . Seeing
colours, hats, jackets to the extreme, acces-
sories walking around me was like anything
was possible, and no one was ashamed or was
hiding what they felt. It was as if no one talk-
ed, but the words flowed off their bodies from
how they carried themselves with the fashion
they wore. I don’t believe it influenced my
style, but I believe that it influenced my career
and helped me grow as an actor. What I mean
by this is that with every fashion walker was
a character playing from them, a role playing
a part of them that gave them a characteristic
look. That made me see what would I would
be like if I wore that, how I would walk , talk
, carry myself and gave me great insight into
how I would portray a character in upcoming
projects. I was able to take what I learned from
fashion, especially New York fashion!
