3. I developed my sequence to match real movies of the same
genre of my opening film. When focusing on the sound for my
film I wanted to incorporate the stereotypical chick flick feel
good pop track. I looked at the opening sequences for films
such as; wild child, Angus thongs and perfect snogging and
Confessions Of a Teenage Drama Queen, which include the
common conventions in my chosen genre romantic comedy.
These common conventions consist of the “boy meets girl”
element taken from films such as “When Harry Met Sally”. They
also consist of storylines such as teenagers struggling with the
high school experience I researched into this and found films
such as “Mean Girls” and “Confessions Of a Teenage Drama
Queen”.
These openings were very useful to look into as there opening
sound track helped me to identify how important the opening
song is. I then carried on to research through YouTube to find
the most appropriate song for my film.
4. I also developed my sequence to match similar use of
the Mise -en –scence to real life movies. When
deciding the opening camera shots of the film I
wanted to incorporate similar ideas of the films I
researched into. Many of them opening with a
teenager in bed. I took this idea from films such as
“Wild Child” and “Bratz” I believe this to be relevant as
it then carry's on to show the whole days events this is a
typical convention of many romantic comedies.
When researching into the opening shot I wanted to
identify the most appropriate camera angle. When
researching the less popular character would be most
likely to have high angle shot of them as if they are
being looked down on. Whereas the more superior
characters where portrayed using and low angle shot
showing how people look up to them. I wanted to use
this typical convention in my film. By researching into
the film such as “Mean Girls “ helped me to identify this.
5. The pace of chick flick films are typically fast and seemed to
be sped up. I planned to incorporate this when editing my
opening sequence. Similarly to films such as “Bratz” which
open at a very speedy pace. I believe this technique helps
to portray a typical chick flick film. The costumes used in my
film were taken and researched into from films such as “Wild
Child” which includes a very stylish main character. I wanted
to make my main character stand out by using a green
sparkly dress and heels allows her to seem of a high status.
But also does go against the usual conventions of a chick
flick usually being represented in “pink”.
6.
7. My main character is represented as a stroppy teenage
girl who’s having a bad start to her day. Her body
language allows the audience to have an opinion on her
straight away. I wanted the audience to connect with
her but also for her to appear unorganised and moody. I
wanted her to appear similar to typical main characters
in chick flicks. Such as the main character in “Wild Child”
appearing spoilt but also with a sense of class.
I wanted to represent her in this way so that my audience
could recognise her status in society immediately. The
status being popular with a harsh front. Although still
having a sense of mystery to what happened to her last
night.
I wanted to portray a positive representation of her
originally but throughout the development of the film this
started to change due to my actress and her personal
characteristics started to influence my opening film. I
then decided to incorporate some of her own
characteristics into my film. This decision then led to her
representation appearing negative. As I started to film
with her we then changed parts of her body language to
make her appear more of spoilt character.
8. There are many stereotypical conventions from films I
have researched into such as “Wild Child” and “Mean
Girls” with glamorous costumes and designer labels. I
wanted to incorporate the stereotypical look within the
mise-en-scene with the use of big eyelashes, big hair and
over the top dresses. In order to make my opening film
appropriate for my target audience I wanted her to
appear like she was in designer labels with the
extravagant high heels and the use of the iPhones shot
allows the audience to realise she is relatively rich. This
then helped to portray her status yet again in society. The
use of make up and clothing helped me to construct my
character. The technical skills I needed to help develop
my character was the editing process on the computer
as this helped me to speed up her reactions and make
the pace of the film faster. This helped to portray her in a
rush and appear unorganised.
