Task 1 C Assessment Criteria 1.3 of Unit 31
The fundamental horror films and Sky News that could be argued that all
moving image sequences (almost all) use cuts to condense time and space,
and to tell stories for the audience to understand what they are watching in
the screen. While as Sky News is live update where broadcasters are over the
European countries showing international, multi media news. Sky News is
based in Britain. The news provides non-stop rolling news on television for the
audience to watch 24/7 ever day.
To demonstrate my understanding of the editing process I will be using two
moving image texts for textual analysis. The fictional text ‘Knock, Knock, Roth,
2015 18 United States and the non-fiction example Sky News 18:00 Britain,
Tuesday 1st December 2014.
Knock, Knock (2015) opens at 1:19 minute long with a conventional
establishing shot. That has become synonymous with mainstream filmmaking.
The early film-makes, Porter and Griffith used such shots to impart
information to the spectator about the narrative environment, character’ and
plot.

In to the film in 13 minute Eli Roth Evan Webber is sitting down at 12 o clocks.
Where the camera is focused on Evan Webber getting I pad showing Evan
Webber wife photo which explain to the audience that he misses his wife ever
much. Evan Webber hear a noise and he suddenly get up and wonder where
the noise came from. Eli Roth uses blur shot show the corroder with the blur
with the music is getting stronger for the audience to react.
It transitions through a conventional cut to a close up of the protagonist’s eye
showing Keanu Reeves played by Evan Webber he open the door in the
middle of cold and running night the two ladies appears Lorenza Lzzo and
Ana De Armas they are speaking to Evan. The camera pans showing the two
ladies very cold and vulnerable for the audience to see.
The cut is, defined by the cinema dictionary has individual strip of a film that is
consisting of a single shot been separated of two peaces of action as
transition. This means that two different shots are joined together in the
editing process to make a clean video clip for the audience to understand.
This film is about a devoted husband and after Evan Webber that is played by
Keanu Reeves that is at home alone for the weekend. One-night two young
attractive women unexpectedly knock on Evan Webber house door for help.
At the beginning it started as Evan been gesture and kind towards the two-
lady Genesis, which is played by Lorenza Izzo and Ana De Armas, which is
played by Bel. Eli Roth wants to build the audience attention by introducing
the characters for the audience to see.

In Knock Knock 2015 The director Eli Roth wanted an actor that would create
a less culture significance and Keanu Reeves fit that character has he
performed in the other film called John Wick, which was release on October
24, 2014. Knock Knock was very good fit for Keanu Reeves to play a huge
role in the film.
The craft of editing utilises specific methods of transition to tell stories. Every
genre has its own requirements in terms of the type, style and rhythm of the
edits it uses. When analysing a moving image sequence it is crucial that the
reader of the text is able to identify and understand the edits being used, and
crucially, why they might have been used – what meaning they are trying to
convey.
There are a number of transitions that construct moving image, these include
such as cut, fade, dissolve, wipe, continuity editing, action match, cross
cutting, parallel action and jump cut.
While as Sky news uses cross cutting from their studios from one presenter to
the other presenter across European country bring live news updates
regarding every situation such as wars, economic, weather, sports and many
other important information that the audience would be interested in.
Cross-Cut
Sky News uses cross cutting allot during presenting the news for the audience
between two presenter where one presenter is in Sky News Centre in Britain
they use cross cutting in New Zealand or other part of the world to bring news
for the audience to watch and now about what the other part of the world are
going through.
While in Knock Knock 2015, they have used cross cutting in 37 minute
showing Evan Webber entering the toilet where Genesis and Bel are washing
there self. The camera cross cut between the toilet and outside the house
showing taxi waiting for two ladies Genesis and Bel is having sex with Evan
Webber it outside the house raining showing the taxi waiting for the two
ladies. It cut back to the shower where they are having sex showing the taxi
leaving the apartment, It cross cut showing Evan family photo. Eli Roth uses
bird eye view to show the house raining it creates a sense of attention
towards the audience when watching the film.
Wipe:
Sky News most of the time they use wipe editing in every 15 minute. Showing
sky news for the audience to watch. “This is because Sky News is globally
important fast changing media form. It flows at incredible speed 24/7 across
internet, TV, printer, radio”. The Media Student’s Book page 335.

This quote shows the viewers that The Sky News is devoted for their
audience to watch Sky News. Most of their broadcast news they use wipe
editing showing the different headlines in the beginning of the show for there
audience.
Continuity Editing:
Sky News uses continuity Editing throughout the Sky News showing the
important headlines that Sky News covers for their audience to understand
what going on in the world. Continuity Editing is a style of editing that Sky
News uses throughout their coverage showing the important headlines for the
audience to watch. Sky News uses the predominant style of film editing and
video editing as a postproduction process to create a narrative for the
audience to watch the news. Sky News want to smooth their footages for the
audience to understand very clearly.
However Continuity Editing is very important in the film industry because
continuity editing is a style that filmmaker’s uses specially when they are
creating films. The main factor that film directors are using continuity editing is
achieved by cutting to continuity. Which emphasizes smooth transition of time
and space.
Action Match
Sky News and Knock Knock they use action match to editing and video
technique where showing one editing clip that is been cutting from one shot to
other shots for the audience to view that matches the first shot action. They
use action shots when filming the movie Knock Knock so that clear what the
storyline is going on making it smoother for the viewer to watch.
Sky News use action match when presenting an event that has happened
they use action match from one place showing other places for the audience
to view.
In conclusion I think that directors in films and directors that are working in
multi Media industry they operated in different ways to present television
program for the audience.
