• A stye, also known as a hordeolum, is an
infection caused by staphylococcal organism.
It is a red painful lump in the eyelid.

• Styes is an inflammation of asebaceous gland
of the eyelid. This results in a red tender bump
at the edge of the eyelid.
6. ETIOLOGY
• Bacterial infection by staphylococcus
• Excessive use of cosmetic
• Poor nutrition
• Sleep deprivation
• Lack of hygiene Lack of water
• Rubbing of the eyes.
7. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
• •Localized swelling of the eyelid
• •Localized pain
• •Redness
• •Tenderness
• •Crusting of the eyelid margins
• Burning in the eye Droopiness of the

• Itching
8. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
•Blurred vision
•Mucous discharge in the eye
•Irritation of the eye

10. MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
• ✓Analgesics
• Acetaminophen
• >Erythromycin ophthalmic ointment is recommended.
• ✓Other antibiotics:
• •Chloramphenicol
• •Amoxicillin
• Warm compression for 10-15 min, four times a day.
12. PREVENTION
• ✓Proper Eye hygiene
• ✓ Proper hand washing
• ✓ Never share cosmetic
• ✓ Remove makeup every night before going to sleep
• ✓Discard old or contaminated eye makeup
13. HORDEOLUM INTERNUM
• It is also inflammation of mebomian gland (retention of mebomian
secretion which are infected)
• Stages STAGE OF CELLULITIS & STAGE OF
• ABSCESS FORMATION.
• Complication: calcification, stone formation, malignancy (scc), brust
fungating mass.
