1. A NIGTHMARE JOURNEY

It was early in the morning, a cold and foggy day in Rome. My mother had bought a nice white
horse, it was said to be the best horse in the region. My mother had asked me to give the
horse to my uncle as a token of our grateful and praise for his victorious battles. My uncle was
Julius Caesar, and he had reached the conquest the Gaul in the last battle when the Gaul’s king
had knelt down in the presence of Julius Caesar.
The journey began easy; I was accompanied by six of our guardians, the braver and stronger
ones. They had been ordered to be with me and protect me until I reached my uncle and bring
me back to Rome safe and sound. It was my first long journey on my own, I was only fourteen.
As you can imagine, after a while I started to feel dizzy, I was so dehydrated. A guardian was
poking me in order to awake me, when an arrow crossed his chest. We had walked into an
ambush!! I felt very frightened, but I managed to escape and hid behind a small tree. In a few
minutes the bandits had murdered all my guardians. I breathed deeply, being grateful to be
alive when suddenly a bandit moved the small tree that covered me and trapped me.
The bandits tied my hands together and they obligated me to pull the carriage. It was
humiliating! I wasn’t born to do these things, I was Octave Augustus!! I was almost dragging
because of the effort and the dehydration and, fortunately, two Caesar’ soldiers appeared. I
thought I was lucky. They fought harshly, and finally they killed all bandits, so we could
continue our journey to Julius Caesar’s safely.
But not checking inside the carriage was definitely a mistake. There was one bandit left, and he
attacked us, but he was not enough for two Caesar’ soldiers. Before we left we checked the
carriage and, surprisingly, we found Julius Caesar standard! The standard had been robbed
some days ago, and the two soldiers were looking for it so as to give it back to Caesar. The
standard was very important because it was the symbol of Julius Caesar’s legion. Since it was
robbed the legion was sad, and they became disheartened because they thought it was a
signal of Gods and they had fallen from grace.
With great relief, we went on our way to Julius Caesar’s.

UN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE
Chris was only fifteen years old when his parents told him that he had been adopted. They
believed that it was necessary he knew the truth.
Until that time he had lived a perfect life, he was a popular boy at school, a good student and
his parents had given him everything he wanted. Chris couldn’t believe what was happening.
He thought it was a horrible nightmare. The following days Chris was feeling terribly sad, but
he wanted to know who his natural parents were, so Chris decided to investigate by himself.
First of all, he asked his parents but they didn’t know it. They only knew that his natural
mother had given him in adoption. Then he looked for his registry office, but there wasn’t
anything about her. So he decided to go to the parish church where she had left him.
The parish church was in the suburb of the city in a modest area. Chris went into the church
and he saw a middle-aged priest, so Chris followed him. Chris told him the issue, but the priest
said to him that he had begun to work there four years ago. However, he knew the previous
priest whose name was Robert. Chris asked him for Robert’s address. At first the priest didn’t
want to, but then he agreed.
Chris went to Mr. Robert’s house. He knocked on the door and an old man opened it. Chris
introduced himself and told him all about him. When Chris finished speaking, Mr. Robert
looked surprised and moved. Mr. Robert said to him that he had known his mother when she
was only a teenager. He also said to Chris that she had been compelled by her parents to give
her baby in adoption, and she had been looking for him until now. Chris was feeling surprised
and happy, so then he asked Mr. Robert to help him to meet with her. Mr. Robert told him
that she wasn´t in the city, but he would try to help him. Finally, before leaving Mr. Robert’s
house, Christ gave Mr. Robert his phone number.
Three days later, Mr. Robert phoned Chris because Julia was in the city and she wanted to see
him on Saturday afternoon in his house. Chris accepted happily.
The day arrived and Chris was feeling a bit nervous, because he knew his life was going to
change that day. When Chris saw the car parked outside his house, his heart started beating
faster….
