2. Hypotheses

of scary world evaluations.
H2: Crime-related nonfiction viewing frequency is positively related to
the extremity of scary world evaluations.
H3: NTE will moderate the relationship between crime drama viewing
frequency and scary world evaluations such that crime drama viewing
frequency will predict scary world evaluations for high-NTE individuals,
but not for low-NTE individuals.
H4: NTE will moderate the relationship between crime-related nonfiction
viewing frequency and scary world evaluations such that crime-related
nonfiction viewing frequency will predict scary world evaluations for
high-NTE individuals, but not for low-NTE individuals.
3. Results
Results from a cross-sectional survey among 226
adolescents indicate that crime drama viewing and
scary world beliefs are only correlated among high-
NTE individuals.NTE does Not moderate cultivation
through nonfiction.The theoretical implications of

are discussed, and suggestions are made for future
research on attitudinal media effects.
