LIONSGATE
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
HOW WE FOUND OUR COMPANY
In order to find a suitable distributor, our group looked for a
company that had distributed similar films within our genre.
We also knew that our film would need to be distributed by
an American company, as it has higher production rates than
an independent film.
This led us to agree on Lionsgate, although it is not a part of
the ‘Big 6,’ it would be able to finance our film (with a budget
of $40 million), and distribute it successfully.
THRILLER/HORROR
FILMS DISTRIBUTED
BY LIONSGATE
SAW series, 2004-17. budget ranging from
$1.2 million to $17 million.
Cabin in The Woods, 2011, budget of $30
million.
American Psycho, 2000, budget of $9 million.
BUDGET
A similar film to Women’s Bane is Unforgettable (Denise Di Novi,
2017) which has a budget of $12 million. This is on the lower
scale for a Hollywood film and was released by Warner Bros. Our
budget would be higher than Unforgettable.
Our budget is quite high in comparison to other thriller films,
such as Unforgettable, but this is because we have a handful of
well known actors and actresses; such as Morgan Freeman.
The film is located in New York –and the protagonist is rich, living
in a high class apartment. We would also have to film in multiple
bars where the protagonist would seduce her victims – adding to
the budget.
However, the film would mostly be shot on location and would
not require much post production work/after effects –
minimizing the budget.
WHY LIONSGATE WOULD DISTIBUTE
WOMEN’S BANE
Lionsgate would distribute Women’s Bane as it of a similar genre to some of their most successful
films, such as American Psycho (Mary Harron, 2000) that had a worldwide gross of $34,266,564.
It would attract an audience of an older age, because it would hold a nostalgic feeing to those
who watched and enjoyed American Psycho.
Our film would also target a large audience as there is the appeal of having a women
protagonist, such as in The Hunger Games series (Gary Ross, 2012-15). Which would attract both
male and female viewers as she is a highly sexualised anti-hero.
It will also appeal to thriller fans, who will understand the concept and enjoy solving enigmas.
