3. What is Pile?
⢠It is a long slender foundation
member made either of
timber,structural steel or
concrete to transfer the load
of the structure in deep
foundation.

4. Why do we use Pile?
Weak Soil
Deep Foundation
Structure
PILE
Bed Rock
5. Advantage of Piling
⢠To take the structure deep into the ground and
hence preventing over turning.
⢠To provide a strong bedrock soil (i.e. higher bearing
capacity) for the structure and transfer the total load
of the structure.
⢠To distribute the weight of the structure over a large
area.
⢠To prevent unequal settlement.
6. Types of pile
Depending on their function:
⢠Bearing piles
⢠Friction piles
⢠Sheet piles
⢠Anchor piles
⢠Batter piles
⢠Fender piles
⢠Compaction piles
Depending on their materials:
⢠Timber piles
⢠Concrete piles
⢠Composite piles
⢠Steel piles
7. Casting of a Flyover Pile
(cast in situ)
(Location- Mouchak Mogbazar Flyover)
31. Observations:
⢠The water that they used to admix the bentonite was recycled
for next use also.
â˘They maintained the weiring and welding properly to make
steel case strong enough to carry the load.
â˘When they broke the pile head, it should be above 6â from the
ground surface. But in some cases accidently, they couldnât
manage to do so. Therefore, they placed an extra layer of CC of
6â which shouldnât be as it couldnât take the load properly.
