Assignment 2: Prevalence Statistics and Reporting
Requirements
Browse state-run Web sites to collect information about
statistical estimates on family violence that is reported or that
goes unreported.
Choose a specific area of family violence and hypothesize why
there is such a variance between actual reported and unreported
incidents.
Browse the Web to determine the state-mandated reporting
requirements if treatment professionals learn about children in
danger due to family violence in the home environment.
You may choose to address your home state or any other state
within the U.S.
Analyze the reporting requirements to verify if they are too
lenient or too strict.
How might reporting rates be increased?
Write your initial response to each part in 3–4 paragraphs.
Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
In responding to your peers, compare and contrast the
information for the state you picked to ones selected by your
peers and provide insight into the reasons for the similarities
and differences observed.

Assignment 3: Twin Behavior: Intervening
Amee and Aaron are 6-year-old twins of Josh and Lacy. Josh is
an alcoholic and unemployed, and Lacy works two jobs to feed
the family. When Lacy arrives home late from work, Josh is
drunk after spending the day managing the children. Josh picks
a fight with Lacy over petty issues and starts hitting her. Amee
and Aaron try to protect their mother. As they tug on their
father's leg, he stops hitting Lacy, falls to the floor, and begins
to cry. This has been a nightly ritual since Josh lost his job six
weeks ago. Before losing his job, Josh used to hit Lacy on a
sporadic basis, usually when he had too much to drink. The
children have developed a morbid fear of their father, and they
are extra careful not to annoy him.
At a parent/teacher conference, Lacy is told that her twins'
aggressive behavior on the playground at recess is becoming an
issue. Their teacher expresses concern and suggests that Lacy
might want to investigate early intervention for her children.
Without discussing the violence being experienced in the
family, Lacy agrees with the teacher to pursue intervention for
the twins' behavioral issues.
Identify and integrate various psychoeducational or supportive
approaches that might be used at the community level, such as
at community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to
assist children like Amee and Aaron, who are at risk from
family violence, to more effectively cope and develop
resiliency.
Be sure to address whether there may be differences between
the responses seen for Amee and Aaron and provide your
reasoning.
Explore issues of gender, diversity, and ethics within the
intervention approaches.

Assignment 1: Effects of Child Sexual Abuse
When Jamie’s mother, Arlene, attended the first-term Parent
Teacher Association meeting, Carole, another parent who works
as a case manager at a local community mental-health clinic,
helped seat her. Over coffee after the PTA meeting, Arlene
disclosed her concerns about the changes in Jamie. A little over
a year ago, Jamie was kidnapped and sexually victimized over a
2-day period, after which he managed to escape. Arlene
explained how Jamie’s life changed since that time: his grades
dropped substantially, he started eating his meals alone at
school, he stopped interacting with other children, and he has
become a loner with no close friends.
After completing her narration of Jamie’s current condition,
Arlene asked Carole for advice on his condition. She was not
sure whether this is a phase. Carole promised to bring Arlene
some literature on the developmental and psychological effects
on a child who has been sexually victimized.
What would this literature indicate about the psychological and
developmental effects on a child who has been sexually
victimized?
What intervention strategies might Carole recommend to
Arlene?

Assignment 2: Community Prevention Program
After hearing that a neighbor’s child, Jeremy, age seven, was
sexually assaulted in the local park, the parents of Cherry Hill
township decide that their community needs a program to
prevent sexual abuse of their children in the future.
Prepare a presentation for the parents, providing pertinent
information they might like to include in a Sexual Assault
Prevention program aimed at the children in their community.
Suggest the psychoeducational and supportive approaches that
can be effectively used at the community level, such as in
community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to
provide this information to the children. Address issues of
gender, diversity, and ethics in your presentation.

Assignment 1: Violence on Children’s TV
The National Television Violence Study found that in 1996-
1997, 61% of television programs contained violence, and, of
those selected, 75% showed no remorse, criticism of, or penalty
for the violence. Forty percent of violent acts were committed
by attractive characters.
For this assignment, you need to watch an hour of children’s
television, preferably cartoons, and analyze the level of
violence in the chosen children’s show.
Rate the aggressive acts using the following scale:
Mild
: Verbal aggression with no physical contact
Medium
: Physical contact with no blood, such as pushing, shoving, and
hitting
Extreme
: Use of force to cause bodily injury, such as guns, knives, and
other weapons, where blood is produced
Determine if any of the following occurs after the violent acts:
remorse for the violence
criticism of the violence
any consequences of the violence
Analyze how the chosen show might influence the growing
child, based on your readings. What messages is this show
giving to the child?

Assignment 2: LASA 1: Protecting Children From Media
For his 10th birthday, Greg was given a handheld videogame
system. His parents allowed him to pick any two games. They
knew the games might contain violence, because there was a
violence rating sign posted on the games, but rationalized that
they were only games and other kids play them. Greg would
quickly finish dinner and run up to his room to play his games.
His parents were pleased to observe that Greg enjoyed their
present so much. After a week, his parents noticed that he
wasn’t turning off the videogames at bedtime, and had begun
turning homework in late. He was up so late playing that he
would not get up for school without argument. His parents
decided that enough was enough and took the video games
away. Greg threw temper tantrums and persuaded his parents to
buy him a computer after convincing them that it was necessary
to keep up at school. Greg soon returned to the same pattern of
behavior where he spent long hours and late nights at the
computer. This time, his parents felt a false sense of security
that he was doing his homework. One day, his curious parents
decided to scan the computer history to see what Web sites Greg
was browsing. To their horror, they discovered that Greg was
spending many hours online playing interactive, sometimes
violently graphic, games on the Internet. He was also chatting
with other “gamers”. Before confronting Greg about his
behavior, his mother and father agreed to investigate what types
of intervention strategies might be available within their
community. They have come to you, a behavioral consultant, for
advice.
Click to Read the Kaiser Family Foundation Study: Generation
M2. Media in the Lives of 8- to 18- Year Olds.
Describe the issue of exposure to videogame violence in today’s
society as related to Greg’s situation. Explore issues such as:
Prevalence (e.g., age, gender, racial diversity, etc.)
Given Greg’s developmental level, what are possible dangers of
exposure to media violence? Be sure to address this in the
context of his cognitive and socioemotional development.
Risk and protective factors, including predisposition to violence
(e.g., are all children who play violent videogames likely to
become more aggressive? What protective factors might
mitigate the possible outcomes for Greg?
Discuss the possible outcomes if Greg’s behavior continues
unchecked.
Discuss types of intervention strategies you would expect his
parents to find at a community level, such as in community
centers, schools, and social service agencies, to assist children
like Greg who are at risk due to ongoing exposure to media
violence.
What would be a good plan to recommend to Greg’s parents?
Compare the dangers of exposure to videogame violence with
other forms of violence. What are similarities and differences
between videogame violence exposure and the other type of
violence you chose to compare?
What are the costs of videogame violence to the family and the
community and society at large and the other form of violence
you chose for comparison?

Assignment 1: Discussion Question: Victim of Peer Violence
At the age of nine, Anita moved from a small town to a big city
because her father was transferred to a new job. Anita entered
fifth grade in the middle of the term and was immediately
ostracized by her female classmates. Anita begged her parents
to send her back to her old school. Her parents assumed she was
lonely and reassured her that things would get better soon.
Two girls began tripping Anita in the halls and taking items
from her, starting with small items such as school supplies and
graduating to larger items such as jewelry and clothes. They
would “accidentally” elbow her in the stomach as they walked
by, threw things at Anita when teachers were not looking, and
whispered derogatory names to her. Anita started leaving for
school in the morning, then circling back home when her
parents left for work.
One day, Anita’s mother caught her in the attempt, but Anita
refused to explain her actions. Reluctantly, she returned to
school only to find the same two girls waiting for her in the
restroom. They kicked her and pulled her hair. Anita returned to
class teary-eyed and disheveled, but refused to talk to the
teacher. After class, her teacher encouraged her to talk to the
school counselor, where Anita finally broke down and confessed
what had been occurring.
We have learned that taking a social ecological approach (i.e.,
altering the environment) can be an important component to an
intervention plan. As the school counselor, you must work with
the school and Anita’s family to intervene on her behalf. Submit
your response by
Saturday, September 5, 2015.
Based on this scenario, what environmental alterations might
you suggest based on what you have learned?
How will you foster resiliency as part of a community-
intervention plan?
Include issues of gender, diversity, and ethics in your plan.
As the counselor meeting with Anita, how will you manage
state-mandated reporting laws and maintaining Anita’s
confidentiality within the community?
How will you incorporate Anita’s parents and school into your
plan?
Assignment 2: Intervening With Peer Violence
Watch the following 18-minute video
Bullies
. Be sure to take notes as you watch as you will apply what you
learn to the following questions:
What did you find surprising in the video? Why?
How did what you learned about the Cycle of Violence relate to
what we have been learning about prevention and intervention
for peer victimization?
Compare the two intervention programs discussed in the video
with what we have learned about best practices for intervening
in peer victimization.
Describe an intervention program that you might develop based
on what you have learned throughout this module. Your
program might include elements of either or both of the
intervention programs you saw in the video. Be sure to explain
your rationale based on research for choosing the elements of
your program.
Based on what you learned in your readings as well as from
watching the video, does research support inclusion of legal
consequences for intervening in bullying behavior?

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Cultural Considerations
As a mental health worker in a large city, you have been asked
to work with refugee children who have been relocated from
central Nigeria to live with foster families in your city. The
children are between the ages of 9 and 13, boys and girls. They
were rescued from a refugee camp in Nigeria where conditions
were very poor. People were cramped and slept in rudimentary
shelters. Food was scarce, and disease was rampant. Prior to
arriving in the camp, the children were exposed to brutal
violence. They saw their families murdered, houses burned, and
witnessed or experienced sexual assault. Some were also injured
in the attacks on their villages.
Utilize the
Culturegrams
database in the Argosy Online library, the
Ethics and Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct
(2010)
, and your readings to write a paper addressing the following:
Describe the psychological effects of violence that the children
from Nigeria might be experiencing? Be sure to consider issues
such as gender and age.
Design an intervention program to address the children’s
exposure to violence. Remember to consider individual, family,
and community needs.
Describe the elements you would incorporate into a prevention
program designed to foster resilience in the children from
Nigeria, as well as break the cycle of violence that we learned
can occur for children exposed to violence. You may research
existing programs that utilize best practices as we have learned
in this course, or design your own program.
Reflect on the debate between “cultural universality” and
“cultural specificity”. How would you reconcile this debate
within the context of the ethics code for psychologists?
Discuss why it is important to take into consideration cultural
traditions when designing an intervention program. Describe at
least two specific Nigerian cultural traditions and how you
would use this knowledge in designing your intervention
program.
Briefly describe at least 2 ethical considerations that one would
need to take into account when intervening with children as
victims of violence in general, as well as pertaining to cultural
issues specifically

Assignment 2: Community Violence in the U.S.
In the increasingly violent times that the U.S. is experiencing, it
has been observed that children in some areas are terrorized by
street violence. Gang warfare can easily turn a quiet
neighborhood into a war zone, where children might become
inadvertent victims. Although some children can’t cope with the
fear, a few are able to rise above it and confidently move ahead.
What are risk factors for children to become involved in gang
activity?
Describe some of the effects of gang violence on children.
Describe some of the characteristics of children who grow
stronger by surviving in these environments.
Discuss how parents in these neighborhoods could foster these
characteristics in growing children.

This will consist of FIVE APA research papers and FIVE discussions f.docx

  • 1. This will consist of FIVE APA research papers and FIVE discussions for class. Alll need to be cited and in APA format! Will pay downpayment and then the rest of the payment will be paid upon completion of the final discussion for week five! In other words I will pay you when I recieve all the completed work. MUST follow RUBRIC and be free from plaigerism. NO PLAIGERISM, FOLLOW RUBRIC! TEN written assignments total!!! AS FOLLOWS: Children and Violence Assignment 2: Prevalence Statistics and Reporting Requirements Browse state-run Web sites to collect information about statistical estimates on family violence that is reported or that goes unreported. Choose a specific area of family violence and hypothesize why there is such a variance between actual reported and unreported incidents. Browse the Web to determine the state-mandated reporting requirements if treatment professionals learn about children in danger due to family violence in the home environment. You may choose to address your home state or any other state within the U.S. Analyze the reporting requirements to verify if they are too lenient or too strict. How might reporting rates be increased? Write your initial response to each part in 3–4 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. In responding to your peers, compare and contrast the information for the state you picked to ones selected by your peers and provide insight into the reasons for the similarities and differences observed. By
  • 2. Saturday, August 15, 2015 , submit your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Use the same Discussion Area to comment on your classmates' submissions and continue the discussion until Wednesday, August 19, 2015 . Assignment 3: Twin Behavior: Intervening Amee and Aaron are 6-year-old twins of Josh and Lacy. Josh is an alcoholic and unemployed, and Lacy works two jobs to feed the family. When Lacy arrives home late from work, Josh is drunk after spending the day managing the children. Josh picks a fight with Lacy over petty issues and starts hitting her. Amee and Aaron try to protect their mother. As they tug on their father's leg, he stops hitting Lacy, falls to the floor, and begins to cry. This has been a nightly ritual since Josh lost his job six weeks ago. Before losing his job, Josh used to hit Lacy on a sporadic basis, usually when he had too much to drink. The children have developed a morbid fear of their father, and they are extra careful not to annoy him. At a parent/teacher conference, Lacy is told that her twins' aggressive behavior on the playground at recess is becoming an issue. Their teacher expresses concern and suggests that Lacy might want to investigate early intervention for her children. Without discussing the violence being experienced in the family, Lacy agrees with the teacher to pursue intervention for the twins' behavioral issues. Identify and integrate various psychoeducational or supportive approaches that might be used at the community level, such as at community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to assist children like Amee and Aaron, who are at risk from family violence, to more effectively cope and develop resiliency. Be sure to address whether there may be differences between

Submit your response to the W1: Assignment 3 Dropbox by Wednesday, August 19, 2015 . Your response should be at least 2 pages long, and include a cover page and reference list. Assignment 3 Grading Criteria Maximum Points Discussed the psychoeducational or supportive approaches for children witnessing family violence and are at risk of experiencing multiple problems at the cognitive, behavioral, developmental, and/or emotional levels. 32 Determined that although both children have been exposed to the family violence, there is no clear determinant of how they will respond to the situation due to mitigating internal processes. 24 Explored the issues of gender, diversity, and ethics within the intervention approaches. 24 Wrote in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrated ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources, displayed accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 20 Total: 100 Assignment 1: Effects of Child Sexual Abuse When Jamie’s mother, Arlene, attended the first-term Parent Teacher Association meeting, Carole, another parent who works as a case manager at a local community mental-health clinic,

A little over a year ago, Jamie was kidnapped and sexually victimized over a 2-day period, after which he managed to escape. Arlene explained how Jamie’s life changed since that time: his grades dropped substantially, he started eating his meals alone at school, he stopped interacting with other children, and he has become a loner with no close friends. After completing her narration of Jamie’s current condition, Arlene asked Carole for advice on his condition. She was not sure whether this is a phase. Carole promised to bring Arlene some literature on the developmental and psychological effects on a child who has been sexually victimized. What would this literature indicate about the psychological and developmental effects on a child who has been sexually victimized? What intervention strategies might Carole recommend to Arlene? By Saturday, August 22, 2015 , write your initial response to each part in 3–4 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Assignment 2: Community Prevention Program After hearing that a neighbor’s child, Jeremy, age seven, was sexually assaulted in the local park, the parents of Cherry Hill township decide that their community needs a program to prevent sexual abuse of their children in the future. Prepare a presentation for the parents, providing pertinent information they might like to include in a Sexual Assault Prevention program aimed at the children in their community. Suggest the psychoeducational and supportive approaches that can be effectively used at the community level, such as in community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to provide this information to the children. Address issues of gender, diversity, and ethics in your presentation. Submit your PowerPoint presentation to the

In addition, make sure you have included a title slide and a reference slide. Assignment 2 Grading Criteria Maximum Points Analyzed pertinent information they deem relevant to the development of a Sexual Assault Prevention program 25 Described the psychoeducational information and supportive approaches that the community can effectively use to deal with the issue of sexual abuse of children 30 Addressed the issues of gender, diversity, and ethics in the context of intervention approaches 25 Wrote in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrated ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources, displayed accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 20 Total: 100 Assignment 1: Violence on Children’s TV The National Television Violence Study found that in 1996- 1997, 61% of television programs contained violence, and, of those selected, 75% showed no remorse, criticism of, or penalty for the violence. Forty percent of violent acts were committed by attractive characters. For this assignment, you need to watch an hour of children’s television, preferably cartoons, and analyze the level of violence in the chosen children’s show. Rate the aggressive acts using the following scale: Mild

His parents allowed him to pick any two games. They knew the games might contain violence, because there was a violence rating sign posted on the games, but rationalized that they were only games and other kids play them. Greg would quickly finish dinner and run up to his room to play his games. His parents were pleased to observe that Greg enjoyed their present so much. After a week, his parents noticed that he wasn’t turning off the videogames at bedtime, and had begun turning homework in late. He was up so late playing that he would not get up for school without argument. His parents decided that enough was enough and took the video games away. Greg threw temper tantrums and persuaded his parents to
  • 7. buy him a computer after convincing them that it was necessary to keep up at school. Greg soon returned to the same pattern of behavior where he spent long hours and late nights at the computer. This time, his parents felt a false sense of security that he was doing his homework. One day, his curious parents decided to scan the computer history to see what Web sites Greg was browsing. To their horror, they discovered that Greg was spending many hours online playing interactive, sometimes violently graphic, games on the Internet. He was also chatting with other “gamers”. Before confronting Greg about his behavior, his mother and father agreed to investigate what types of intervention strategies might be available within their community. They have come to you, a behavioral consultant, for advice. Click to Read the Kaiser Family Foundation Study: Generation M2. Media in the Lives of 8- to 18- Year Olds. Describe the issue of exposure to videogame violence in today’s society as related to Greg’s situation. Explore issues such as: Prevalence (e.g., age, gender, racial diversity, etc.) Given Greg’s developmental level, what are possible dangers of exposure to media violence? Be sure to address this in the context of his cognitive and socioemotional development. Risk and protective factors, including predisposition to violence (e.g., are all children who play violent videogames likely to become more aggressive? What protective factors might mitigate the possible outcomes for Greg? Discuss the possible outcomes if Greg’s behavior continues unchecked. Discuss types of intervention strategies you would expect his parents to find at a community level, such as in community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to assist children like Greg who are at risk due to ongoing exposure to media violence. What would be a good plan to recommend to Greg’s parents? Compare the dangers of exposure to videogame violence with other forms of violence. What are similarities and differences
  • 8. between videogame violence exposure and the other type of violence you chose to compare? What are the costs of videogame violence to the family and the community and society at large and the other form of violence you chose for comparison? By Wednesday, September 2, 2015 , format your paper in APA (6th edition) style, using information you learned in your textbook and from the Kaiser Family Foundation Study to support your response. Your paper should be between 4 and 5 pages in length. Include a cover page, abstract, and reference list, which should cite any information used from your assigned textbook, Kaiser Family Foundation reference, and other sources such as online course content. Assignment 2 Grading Criteria Maximum Points Discuss issues such as prevalence (i.e., age, gender, and racial differences). 16 Discuss dangers of media violence in the context of Greg's developmental level. 20 Discuss risk and protective factors, including predisposition to violence. 20 Discuss possible outcomes of continued exposure to videogame violence. 20 Discuss the intervention strategies/services his parents could find at the community level. 20 Recommend an intervention strategy for Greg. 20 Compare videogame violence to another form of violence. 20

Anita entered fifth grade in the middle of the term and was immediately ostracized by her female classmates. Anita begged her parents to send her back to her old school. Her parents assumed she was lonely and reassured her that things would get better soon. Two girls began tripping Anita in the halls and taking items from her, starting with small items such as school supplies and graduating to larger items such as jewelry and clothes. They would “accidentally” elbow her in the stomach as they walked by, threw things at Anita when teachers were not looking, and whispered derogatory names to her. Anita started leaving for school in the morning, then circling back home when her parents left for work. One day, Anita’s mother caught her in the attempt, but Anita
  • 10. refused to explain her actions. Reluctantly, she returned to school only to find the same two girls waiting for her in the restroom. They kicked her and pulled her hair. Anita returned to class teary-eyed and disheveled, but refused to talk to the teacher. After class, her teacher encouraged her to talk to the school counselor, where Anita finally broke down and confessed what had been occurring. We have learned that taking a social ecological approach (i.e., altering the environment) can be an important component to an intervention plan. As the school counselor, you must work with the school and Anita’s family to intervene on her behalf. Submit your response by Saturday, September 5, 2015. Based on this scenario, what environmental alterations might you suggest based on what you have learned? How will you foster resiliency as part of a community- intervention plan? Include issues of gender, diversity, and ethics in your plan. As the counselor meeting with Anita, how will you manage state-mandated reporting laws and maintaining Anita’s confidentiality within the community? How will you incorporate Anita’s parents and school into your plan? Assignment 2: Intervening With Peer Violence Watch the following 18-minute video Bullies . Be sure to take notes as you watch as you will apply what you learn to the following questions: What did you find surprising in the video? Why? How did what you learned about the Cycle of Violence relate to what we have been learning about prevention and intervention for peer victimization? Compare the two intervention programs discussed in the video with what we have learned about best practices for intervening in peer victimization. Describe an intervention program that you might develop based

Be sure to explain your rationale based on research for choosing the elements of your program. Based on what you learned in your readings as well as from watching the video, does research support inclusion of legal consequences for intervening in bullying behavior? The children are between the ages of 9 and 13, boys and girls. They were rescued from a refugee camp in Nigeria where conditions were very poor. People were cramped and slept in rudimentary shelters. Food was scarce, and disease was rampant. Prior to arriving in the camp, the children were exposed to brutal violence. They saw their families murdered, houses burned, and witnessed or experienced sexual assault. Some were also injured in the attacks on their villages. Utilize the Culturegrams database in the Argosy Online library, the Ethics and Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (2010) , and your readings to write a paper addressing the following: Describe the psychological effects of violence that the children from Nigeria might be experiencing? Be sure to consider issues such as gender and age. Design an intervention program to address the children’s exposure to violence. Remember to consider individual, family, and community needs.
