To whom it may concern:
During the first week of March, 2016 Ms. Majella, “J” Aguilar Vito was a doctoral student in the
Central Michigan University study abroad course: HSC 516B Health Services Education in
Belize, Central America. As her clinical professor I observed Majella working in the field
delivering exceptional care assessing patients, providing nursing interventions and essential
education. Majella showed great skill, concern, and compassion for her patients, the medically
underserved. She also served as an interpreter using her Spanish translation skills.
Majella also directed a team of undergraduates teaching diabetic foot assessment and care. In this
leadership role, she educated her team on the importance of showing dignity and respect for each
patient as well as teaching assessment skills (vital signs, glucose testing, and podiatry screening).
Her undergraduates shared that she was an exceptional teacher and her bedside manner was
exemplary!
This was no easy task as the weather presented challenges of heat and humidity. Other working
conditions added to the difficulty; rural regions of Belize with clinics set up in buildings with
minimal accommodations. She works well under pressure having seen over 150 patients in four
hours, helping a plethora of patients with upper respiratory tract infections, high blood glucose
levels and other comorbidities.
I think you will find Majella a very dedicated professional with excellent leadership skills
committed to serving the needs of her patients. She will make a difference in the lives of those
she serves in any professional role she may choose to pursue.
