Patient education involves a process where health professionals give knowledge and
educate both the caregivers and the patients on how they should adjust their health behaviors to
improve their health status and of those other people next to them. A caregiver who has
undergone patient education is likely to give proper and quality care to the patients. This paper
focuses on explaining how patient education influences how care is provided in a health care
system or facility. To achieve this, the essay involves an interview process of an older person
where personal experiences about the health care system are well given. The part of the interview
is to ask questions concerning the patient's experience with their healthcare professional and the
type of education they received about their current or past health issues. Therefore, the
interviewee for this case, is Mr. Joseph Henning, an old man aged 71 years old. Joseph was
recently diagnosed with diabetes. He has had several health issues in the past which has had both
good and bad outcomes based on the healthcare professionals educating styles and applications
in relation to proper health care.
Questions asked:
1. Did the patient education representative, as well as the caregiver, give you
instructions that guide you on how to care for yourself after an operation or during
illness?
2. Did the health care professional, doctor, pharmacist, nurse, elder counselor, or
caregiver advise you on diet, exercise, or medication?
3. Who assisted you at your home or place o.

The clinical site that I am going to discuss is a local elementary school. There is a single school nurse that provides the care. The care that the nurse provides varies based on what is needed by the students when they come and see her. Examples of care given include assessment of physical injuries, administration of medication for both acute and chronic conditions, and making referrals when necessary. Referrals can be to primary care providers or specialists. The nurse also provides screening for issues including vision, hearing, and scoliosis. She may also provide screening for unusual circumstances, such as child abuse. The nurse also acts as a consult to the teachers and other faculty, giving advice and information when needed. She also discusses the kids’ health with their parents, and teaches the parents how to best continue care at home. Lastly, the nurse is a teacher to the students. She teaches them about their bodies and how they will change as they get older. She teaches them how to care for their bodies and how to care for their mental state. She fosters a sense of independence and autonomy, so that the kids can make their own decisions and can be confident when doing so. The nurse is also very important for mental and emotional health and is “integral to the academic success of the nation’s 74 million youth under the age of 18” (Willgerodt, Maughan, 2018, p. 232).
The population that this service provides care for is primarily students. The school is pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. The kids can be aged anywhere from four to twelve years old. The school nurse can also provide care to the faculty if needed. The students mostly come from middle-to-upper class families. All ethnicities are represented in the school, but the population is mostly white.
The most common illnesses that are seen by the school nurse are acute. Examples of this include the flu, strep throat, and undiagnosed “stomach bugs.” The nurse can give over the counter medications, but they must ensure to have all of the students’ allergies on file and confirmed to ensure no adverse events. Medications that can be given include Claritin, Tylenol, and cough drops. The nurse must double check the appropriate dosage, especially because this can vary for each student given the level of physical development. The nurse can give prescription medications, but must have a doctors’ orders and have to speak with the parents to confirm all of the details. Common indicated medications include ADHD medications, asthma medications, and insulin. However, school nurses are not able to administer narcotics regardless if there is a prescription. The nurse does do the three medication checks ...
The purpose of this Health Policy Study is to better understand adolescents’ views on what are considered core components of the medical home and identify barriers to promoting adolescent health in relation to the medical home.
In addition, this study sought to better understand the needs and challenges in providing adolescents with access to medical homes—from the perspective of both adolescents and experts in adolescent health and medical home policy. To accomplish these goals, researchers conducted focus groups with adolescents, presented these findings to experts, and gathered experts’ reactions to the adolescents’ perspectives. This report includes a detailed description of the methods used for this study, followed by a summary of key focus group findings and the expert reactions to these findings.

Review the Healthy People 2020 objectives for the older adult. Of the objectives listed for the older adult, which do you feel is most important? Be sure to include examples and references to support your response.
Objective: Increase the proportion of older adults with one or more chronic health conditions who report confidence in managing their conditions
(Healthy People 2020).
Chronic conditions may be difficult to manage based on the complexities of a disease. Additionally, managing one or more chronic conditions may be time consuming. Time consuming tasks may take the form of monitoring (e.g. checking blood glucose), keeping a diary, scheduling appointments, sorting and taking medications, exercising, meal planning, etc.. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (2015) suggests the burden of these tasks significantly impact how patients manage their chronic conditions, and that patients often find it difficult to complete all these tasks in order to manage their condition effectively. Personally, I see examples of this every day at the hospital: Patients are not confident in their self-management ability and are therefore unable to demonstrate skill or awareness in regards to their condition. Despite receiving adequate medical attention from outstanding multidisciplinary teams, patients continue to show little interest in self-management, ultimately resulting in an overwhelming number of older adults who lack the confidence to manage one or more chronic conditions (Bodenheimer, 2005). Healthcare providers are being forced to seek new and innovative ways to connect with patients and reinforce educational material in order to give patients the confidence and skill to manage their care. I believe this objective to be most important because self-management is clinically proven to result in better outcomes. It is proven that support for patients and caregivers improve confidence in managing conditions. Recently, my hospital has added to its emphasis on education and follow up... Simply providing information to patients is not enough to build confidence, skill, nor the knowledge to manage their health. Therefore, nursing must collaborate to reinforce behaviors and promote better health outcomes in patients.
There are several vulnerable populations that have a chronic illness (older; homeless; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations) that face challenges when it comes to care. Choose one vulnerable population and discuss what can be done to help alleviate these challenges.
Based on recent events that have transpired in the news, one might acknowledge that refugees and immigrants are a vulnerable population... many of whom are struggling with chronic illness, and undeniably experiencing challenges related to our healthcare delivery system. Several barriers exist for this group, including language and technology barriers, expectations of medical care, cultural differences, as well as unique ...

Explain the role of health education in health promotion. How is the nursing process used in developing health education? Describe a contemporary issue, local or global, that a family may experience today. What steps would the nurse take to address these as part of a health education plan?
The role of health education in health promotion is vital. Health promotion by definition is “educating people about healthy lifestyles, reduction of risk, developmental needs, activities of daily living (ADL’s) and preventive self-care.” (Whitney et al., 2018). In order to live a healthy lifestyle an individual must know what a “healthy lifestyle” consists of. The same goes for reducing risks, ADL’s, preventative self-care and developmental needs. It is important for the healthcare professional or in our case, the nurse, to educate an individual continuously for the duration of the patient's care with the nurse. They should be educated on what the medications are that they are being given, as well as why it is being administered, dosage, route etc. For example, patients always want to know why they are getting Lovenox or Protonix when they have not taken it before. They should also be educated on diet choices, at the hospital that I work at, sometimes the patients will be placed on certain diets like nothing by mouth (NPO), American Diabetes Association (ADA), renal, heart healthy, low potassium etc., and they state that they do not have diet restrictions at home, so they have to be educated on why they were placed on the diet and they should consider this type of diet once discharged.
The nursing process is used in developing health education because the nurse must assess the patient. This assessment is not only a head to toe assessment, but the nurse must also determine the patients needs, readiness to learn and the patient's ability and desire to actively engage in their plan of care and meeting goals. Then the nurse makes their nursing diagnoses, for example is their non-compliance evident, immobility, learning deficit etc. The nurse then develops a plan of care and action that can be made with the patient and begins to implement the plan of care. The nurse and patient evaluate how well they are meeting their care goals and continue to develop a plan that changes to the patients needs and better assists with meeting goals. Throughout the whole process the nurse is educating the patient on what the problem is preventing the patient from getting better and then the nurse educates the patient on how they can work towards solving that problem.
A contemporary issue that a family may experience today is the issue of vaccination. There is a lot of information out there that is telling parents to not vaccinate their children. However, recently there was an issue with a measles outbreak in New York where I live, as well as some other states. In the media there became this discussion about the importance of vaccinating your children, not only for the.

In "Alienable" about a young woman in her 20s who has recently ended a two-year relationship and is trying to console with her friend, Jay, until she realizes people are shielding themselves from the sun like they do not know it is not raining, Yuko Sakata suggests that in relationships it, at times, can be difficult to connect with the other person since people often have differing desires and can change in ways that become incompatible with each other.
In any type of relationship, people will often times have trouble connecting with the other person for several reason, and one is having not only what you yearn for in the present, but what you will long for in the future. In a romantic relationship this can certainly be the make it or break it point. Scenario One
Joanna Spring always insisted that she did not ever want to be kept alive by machines, and even stated that when she was a young teenager. Her parents understood her feelings on the subject. Joanna married Bill Spring and one month later, was involved in an auto accident which left her in a persistent vegetative state. Joanna’s parents (Mr. and Mrs. John Winters) have sued to have Joanna taken off life support. Joanna’s husband refused to allow the hospital to do so. Joanna’s parents thing that it is only because he will not inherit Joanna’s huge estate unless he has been married to her for more than two years. The court sided with Bill Spring, and refused to order the removal of life support. The Winters now want to appeal the decision and let Joanna die in peace before bill becomes Joanna’s heir.
Scenario Two
Shirley Baker is a young woman suffering from breast cancer. She has been on chemotherapy for several months, and has experienced terrible side-effects. She did receive a prescription for the medicinal use of marijuana while living in California, but moved to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. She did take several ounces of marijuana with her when she moved, and was arrested while smoking marijuana on the front porch of her parent’s home, the evening she arrived in Oklahoma. She was convicted of illegal possession of the drug, and wants to appeal her conviction.
Scenario Three
Joe Valle and Fred Hamper have been partners for many years. When same sex unions became legal in California, they moved there just long enough to be “married,” and then returned to their home in New Mexico. Joe applied for health insurance for himself and his “spouse.” The insurance company refused to recognize the “marriage,’ and Joe and Fred sued. The trial court found in favor of Big Time Insurance Company, and Joe and Fred want to appeal.
Scenario Four
Flora Findley loves plants. She had become interested in hydroponics and hybridizing plants. She began growing plants under full-spectrum sunlight lamps in her home. She also has a teenaged son who expressed an interest in growing plants. She was pleased that she and her son could share an interest. One day, a police officer investigating a burglary next door, came to Flora’s home to ask if she had seen anything. He noticed all of the plants growing under the lamps, and quickly began inspecting them. He found a small plant that he thought was marijuana, and promptly arrested Flora. Flora was convicted for possession, but insisted that the search of her home was unwarranted. She wants to appeal the decision.
Scenario Five
Mr. Frank Incense was arrested for theft when he took $500,000 worth of tools from behind a neighbor’s shed which faced an alley. Frank insisted that he thought the tools were being thrown away. He was having financial difficulty and thought he could make some money by selling the tools. While being quest.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

3. Patient education involves a process where health professionals
give knowledge and
educate both the caregivers and the patients on how they should
adjust their health behaviors to
improve their health status and of those other people next to
them. A caregiver who has
undergone patient education is likely to give proper and quality
care to the patients. This paper
focuses on explaining how patient education influences how
care is provided in a health care
system or facility. To achieve this, the essay involves an
interview process of an older person
where personal experiences about the health care system are
well given. The part of the interview
is to ask questions concerning the patient's experience with
their healthcare professional and the
type of education they received about their current or past
health issues. Therefore, the
interviewee for this case, is Mr. Joseph Henning, an old man
aged 71 years old. Joseph was
4. recently diagnosed with diabetes. He has had several health
issues in the past which has had both
good and bad outcomes based on the healthcare professionals
educating styles and applications
in relation to proper health care.
Questions asked:
1. Did the patient education representative, as well as the
caregiver, give you
instructions that guide you on how to care for yourself after an
operation or during
illness?
2. Did the health care professional, doctor, pharmacist, nurse,
elder counselor, or
caregiver advise you on diet, exercise, or medication?
3. Who assisted you at your home or place of residence after
your operation or illness?
4. Do you know of any assistance services, I.e., medication,
food, and transportation that
would help you stay in your home as you get older?
In the interview, Joseph stated that during his care in the
hospital before discharge, the
health professionals informed him about the life changes he
would have to make with the new
5. diagnosis of diabetes. He stated that he saw a nutritionist help
him with diet changes he must
make and enabled him to understand the importance of eating
right. An endocrinologist
explained to him the type of diabetes he had and what this
meant for his care. Joseph was
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (juvenile or insulin-dependent
diabetes), which meant that his
pancreas could not produce insulin ( Nielsen et al., 2016 ).
Joseph had to learn how to check his
blood sugar and how to give the right amount of insulin based
on his reading. Joseph stated
although he learned a lot about checking his blood sugar, he
was still not comfortable with using
the glucometer or even understanding what the readings meant
after he was discharged. Joseph
also stated that he was discharged with a different glucometer
that he did not know how to use
and had to reach out to the family to figure things out. Joseph
had to depend a lot on the family
for support of this new diagnosis. His wife was present during
the education process, and the
type of foods he should eat and those that he should eat were
emphasized. The importance of
6. physical exercises and how they could help in the management
of diabetes were also taught by
health professionals. Joseph was confused about how he got the
disease and could not understand
since the disease had never affected anyone in his family
before.
THE INFLUENCE OF PATIENT EDUCATION ON
HEALTHCARE AMONG THE
ELDERLY 4
Joseph has several family members that are nurses, and they
have offered information to help
him to understand this new diagnosis, and they further
encouraged him to always keep in touch
with his doctor. He was also encouraged about proper food care
and to report changes in urinary
status that may occur. Joseph states that although it was not the
best education from the
beginning, the more questions he asked led to his better
understanding of the disease process,
and he has been able to care for himself with the continuing
knowledge he has received from the
healthcare professionals ( Grabeel, & Tester, 2018 ). Although
Joseph states that his wife is
7. health-conscious because she struggles with hypertension, and
cholesterol issues and she cooks
healthy meals daily, but the doctor's office did inform me that
meals on wheels deliver well-
balanced elderly meals to keep them from missing meals and
that this and other programs are
offered through his local social services department. Also,
Joseph stated that there are also
transportation services through access that can take him to
appointments if he needed. Joseph
says that his insurance has a nurse that calls periodically to
check in on him and comes out to
check his medication regimen to ensure that he knows how to
take his medications as well as
paying for his medications.
In conclusion, the quality of healthcare patient education before
or after discharge from
the hospital is important to keep the patient from returning to
the hospital due to his lack of
understanding of how to take proper care for himself.
Continued support is the overall best
practice for increasing the patient's ability to remain healthy
and alive.

Patient education involves a process where health professionals
give knowledge and
educate both the caregivers and the patients on how they should
adjust their health behaviors to
improve their health status and of those other people next to
them. A caregiver who has
undergone patient education is likely to give proper and quality
care to the patients. This paper
focuses on explaining how patient education influences how
12. care is provided in a health care
system or facility. To achieve this, the essay involves an
interview process of an older person
where personal experiences about the health care system are
well given. The part of the interview
is to ask questions concerning the patient's experience with
their healthcare professional and the
type of education they received about their current or past
health issues. Therefore, the
interviewee for this case, is Mr. Joseph Henning, an old man
aged 71 years old. Joseph was
recently diagnosed with diabetes. He has had several health
issues in the past which has had both
good and bad outcomes based on the healthcare professionals
educating styles and applications
in relation to proper health care.
Questions asked:
1. Did the patient education representative, as well as the
caregiver, give you
instructions that guide you on how to care for yourself after an
operation or during
illness?
2. Did the health care professional, doctor, pharmacist, nurse,
13. elder counselor, or
caregiver advise you on diet, exercise, or medication?
3. Who assisted you at your home or place of residence after
your operation or illness?
4. Do you know of any assistance services, I.e., medication,
food, and transportation that
would help you stay in your home as you get older?
In the interview, Joseph stated that during his care in the
hospital before discharge, the
health professionals informed him about the life changes he
would have to make with the new
diagnosis of diabetes. He stated that he saw a nutritionist help
him with diet changes he must
make and enabled him to understand the importance of eating
right. An endocrinologist
explained to him the type of diabetes he had and what this
meant for his care. Joseph was
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (juvenile or insulin-dependent
diabetes), which meant that his
pancreas could not produce insulin ( Nielsen et al., 2016).
Joseph had to learn how to check his
blood sugar and how to give the right amount of insulin based
on his reading. Joseph stated
14. although he learned a lot about checking his blood sugar, he
was still not comfortable with using
the glucometer or even understanding what the readings meant
after he was discharged. Joseph
also stated that he was discharged with a different glucometer
that he did not know how to use
and had to reach out to the family to figure things out. Joseph
had to depend a lot on the family
for support of this new diagnosis. His wife was present during
the education process, and the
type of foods he should eat and those that he should eat were
emphasized. The importance of
physical exercises and how they could help in the management
of diabetes were also taught by
health professionals. Joseph was confused about how he got the
disease and could not understand
since the disease had never affected anyone in his family
before.

Joseph has several family members that are nurses, and they
have offered information to help
15. him to understand this new diagnosis, and they further
encouraged him to always keep in touch
with his doctor. He was also encouraged about proper food care
and to report changes in urinary
status that may occur. Joseph states that although it was not the
best education from the
beginning, the more questions he asked led to his better
understanding of the disease process,
and he has been able to care for himself with the continuing
knowledge he has received from the
healthcare professionals ( Grabeel, & Tester, 2018 ). Although
Joseph states that his wife is
health-conscious because she struggles with hypertension, and
cholesterol issues and she cooks
healthy meals daily, but the doctor's office did inform me that
meals on wheels deliver well-
balanced elderly meals to keep them from missing meals and
that this and other programs are
offered through his local social services department. Also,
Joseph stated that there are also
transportation services through access that can take him to
appointments if he needed. Joseph
says that his insurance has a nurse that calls periodically to
check in on him and comes out to
16. check his medication regimen to ensure that he knows how to
take his medications as well as
paying for his medications.
In conclusion, the quality of healthcare patient education before
or after discharge from
the hospital is important to keep the patient from returning to
the hospital due to his lack of
understanding of how to take proper care for himself.
Continued support is the overall best
practice for increasing the patient's ability to remain healthy
and alive.
