3. G. Scope and Limitations
Generally, the scope of a research is
followed by its limitations. As a researcher,
you have to be careful when you define your
scope or area of focus. Remember that if you
broaden the scope too much, you might not be
able to do justice to the work or it might take
a very long time to complete.
4. Scope
refers to how far the research area has
explored and parameters in with the
study will be operating in.
the type of information to be included in
the scope of a research project would
include facts and theories about the
subject of the project.
5. Importance of Scope in Research
Scoping can help the researcher plan what
steps need to be done, refine the research
objectives, determine the personnel and
budgetary requirements, and note down
essential areas to be covered among others.
Simply stated, scoping determines the
breadth and depth of the assessment of the
research.
6. Limitations
refers to the shortcomings of the study,
things you believe the research lacked or
ways in which it could have been better.
These are the exclusions of the study
that were beyond the control of the
researcher.
7. How to Write the Scope and
Limitation of the Study
The scope should discuss the inclusions and
coverage of your study including locale and
respondents.
The limitation should discuss the exclusions from the
study that were beyond the control of the researcher.
The scope and limitation of the study may be
presented in two paragraphs.
8. H. Definition of Terms
an alphabetical list of important terms or
acronyms that you define particularly
ambiguous terms or those used in special
ways.
Definition of Terms is important because
the jargons or terms are clarified and are
clearly defined for the readers of the
paper.
9. 2 Types of Definition
1.Conceptual Definition
the basic dictionary definition.
the universal meaning of the terms.
2. Operational Definition
how the term is applied or used in research.
10. Important Reminders in Writing the
Definition of Terms
Only words or phrases that have special
meanings in the study are defined.
What to Define?
- Important words in the title-variables
- Technical terms applied or used in the
paper
- Words for treatments and measurement-
data analysis terms, etc.
11. Define terms conceptually, operationally or
both.
If the terms are from dictionaries, books,
encyclopedia and other publications,
acknowledge the source.
If there are uncommon acronyms include
them; spell them out and give the meaning.
Definitions should be short, clear and
unambiguous.
