Objective To obtain an engineeringposition in a dynamic, growth oriented company.
Experience Keystone Research & Pharmaceutical Gibbstown, NJ
Plant Engineer - Polychromatic Coatings Division, 2014 to present
Production Supervision
Supervised 7 operatorsfor nail polish production.
Updated and created standard operatingprocedures (SOPs) for plant operation includingbatch cards,
equipment, equipment cleaning, lockout tagout, and other safety procedures.
Trained operators on procedures and implemented on the job trainingprogram.
Transferred production to a new pilot facility and validated the process.
Improved plant productivityby 25% by optimizing production schedule while reducingovertime needs.
Plant Engineering
Created P&IDsfor specific areasof the process.
Sized, reviewed quotes, and ordered process equipment.
Collaborated with R&D to scale up and optimize new processes and chemistries.
Project Engineering
Supervised the implementation of a newly designed nail polish plant of approximate total capital
investment of $10 million increasingthe production capacity by more than 5 times.
Worked closely with the design firm to evaluate and specify process equipment.
Supervised multiple groupsof contractors in construction of the new plant.
Made mechanical improvementsto ease production and maintenance and improve safety.
Drove project timeline to meet project milestones.
New Plant Start Up
Confirmed installation and operation of all newlyinstalled equipment and unit operations includingthe
DCS (Direct Control System) with water runs through the system. Altered DCS programmingand
mechanical orientationsas necessary without spill or incident.
Fullycommissioned unit operations with solvent flush followed by process validation of final products
to meet startup milestonesproviding an initial 20% savings in final material production.
Documented installation and commissioningprocesses.
Compiled equipment listsand created inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance program.
Created new SOPs and other standard documentswith input from operators, qualityassurance,
maintenance, and EH&S.
Determined supplychain for new plant production.
Process Safety Management
Lead engineer for OSHA PSM covered plant.
Performed process hazard analyses(PHAs) with PSM team to evaluate the plant safety and compliance
with applicable township, state, and federal codes includingNFPA, OSHA, NEC etc.
Implemented cost effective corrective actions for issues identified in the PHAs.
Led pre-start up safety reviewsfor all units and operations in a newlycommissioned plant.
Experience Ashland Inc, Wilmington, DE
Process Research Internship - Ashland Specialty Ingredients, 2012-2013
Developed a relationship between raw materials, processconditions and finished product molecular
weight allowingfor the substitution of lower cost precursors; potential annual savings of $700 M.
Developed massand energybalance model for drying and grindingprocesses for a new Guar derivatives
production facility. This model was incorporated into the entire plant design. Assisted with plant trials
at vendor to evaluate grindingequipment for new plant.
Created a genericmodel to predict grindingrate and particle size distribution based on mill design and
input variables. This model is used to provide an energy input to produce a desired particle size
distribution.
