2. Thor Ragnarok film review topics
Colour scheme
The colour scheme that I'm going to
use is going to be using is red, this is
to show you anger towards the film.
Thor Ragnarok uses the colour
scheme of yellow, green black and
blue this is to give the film a retro
vibe. I can us these colours in my
own work to correlate with the film
I'm talking about. They also use an
orange colour, these colours are not
used for symbolism in the poster
they are used to look retro, even
though its not a retro film.
Fonts
My idea is that I will either use a normal font
to set up the slides for the video and have
the visual description on the video to be a
retro type font that is used on thor
Ragnarok, this can be used to help visually
demonstrate my understanding of the film
I'm reviewing. An example of this is:
Set up or opening (topic)
I was thinking that for my design on the
video as the opening I would start off by
making jab at the films critics, the
reason I would bring up this topic at the
start is because a lot of peoples
arguments are “you cant dislike a film if
critics love it”, my opening point would
be pointing out that critics don’t review
movies as people would believe and as I
explain I would have visuals showing
evidence of what I am discussing. This is
important because it will show what I'm
talking about to be backed up, making it
more credible and to also put my review
above the ones given by critics. I would
also criticize my own review at points to
give me free reign in what I say.
My first point of criticism (topic)
This is going to be aimed at the comedy parts of thor
Ragnarok, I will start off with the statement that comedy is
subjective to different people, pointing out hat different
people find different things funny. After I have discussed
this I will go onto to explain how lazy the comedy is in it and
how the comedy is so simple and easy. For example the joke
is that she fell over which is not clever or subtle when that’s
the main joke. I would then show an example from
Ragnarok almost a compilation to the bad and lazy jokes.
After I would go onto to develop the point that if movies
think they can get away with this style of lazy writing and
they know that it sells this would lead to them doing it more
and more because they get money and eventually there will
be no films left with a good story.
My second point (topic)
This would be a link to the first and second point on
comedy and critics, I would make the statement hat critics
are hypocrites, I would then show a scene from scary
movie where the character slips as the joke from this I will
then show the scene on Ragnarok where the same exact
thing happens and then I will show the review on that joke
in scary movie from a critic where they say its terrible and
not funny and then I will show a review from the same
critic for Ragnarok on the same joke praising it, this will
back up my point that they are hypocrites and quickly get
that out of the way, with this point I can discount critic
reviews and the comedy in Ragnarok to open up the talk
about the plot of the film.
My 3rd point (topic)
This will be about the plot of the film. essentially in this part
of the review I want to give a run down about the plot,
explaining what happens in the plot that’s important and
where the overall story takes us in the film and how it
affects the story of the marvel universe its in, I will also
discuss the effectiveness of the plot, if it worked the
weaknesses of the plot and how it could be greatly
improved.
My 4th point (topic)
This is about the plot again but this time I will be
discussing the issues with it. I will point out why
its not a good plot and why there are no steaks in
the movie between the characters and it all links
back to comedy in the film. In thor Ragnarok they
use a joke on pretty much everything that
happens, this teaks away the seriousness of the
film, this shows when you don’t care about the
dangers that the characters are in, this would be
fine if its supposed to be a parody where you
don’t care about the danger but what people
don’t seem to get is that this is not a parody film
and it is meant to be serious. The idea of the plot
is that its thors darkest day where his home world
gets destroyed, his farther dies and he finds out
he has a sister he didn’t know about, instead of
being upset, shocked or hurt like a normal/
relatable character would be thor makes bad
jokes about each of these parts, and the jokes
aren't meant to be bad.
My 5th point (topic)
At this point in the video I intend
to recap previous installments of
the franchise and show how the
characters completely change
personality and how the story
completely drops in quality, this
can be explained the change in
writers and directors. For
comparison I will use Spiderman
homecoming to demonstrate how
a movie can use comedy while
keeping a serious plot and
atmosphere and then show why
thor did it badly. I will also
compare the level of story telling
to the avengers assemble to show
how much better the story's used
to be. This should add impact on
the how people reflect upon the
story.
The 6th part (topic)
This topic will be on the characters. I will talk about, Valkyrie,
Thor, Loki, Hulk, Odin, Hella, Korg, and Heimdall all of these
characters changed from what they where in there movies doing a
complete personality swift. I will talk about each of the characters
individually first and compare them to themselves. This topic will
be a strong point to show inconsistency in there universe.
The 7th part (comparison topic)
I'm going to have a side bar where I compare the film to a film
that has hidden meanings and well thought out camera shots and
story that all connects together to give symbolism to other things
in life, and example of this would be comparing it to the dark
knight, 1408, interstellar or even pirates of even the new infinity
war movie. This comparison will show how other films do such a
great job of appealing to people that like in-depth films and also
those who just want to see action and jokes, this will show where
Ragnarok failed and how it could have been so much better.
Conclusion
in the conclusion I will give the film my score out of ten and
quickly recap and summaries my points. The end conclusion will
be just and fair and then I will have an ending where I say its just
my opinion and people should get upset about it.
3. Thor Ragnarok film review – style
Comparison style
This style is where I would put 4 film parts that are
repetitive or copy's from other films side by side to give
visual aid to the since so they can see for themselves
the issue or what I'm talking about. I find this style of
comparison most helpful as it clearly demonstrates the
difference between the two.
Gameplay style
This is an example of gameplay commentary, this is the style where I would be
talking about the movie with gameplay in the background, this would eb a
game that I enjoy playing but it would also have to be a game that people
enjoy watching so that they can be entertained at all visual moments. I see a
lot of commentary's use this style when reviewing something or talking about
something and I would feel more confinable personally if I wasn’t on the
camera while giving the review. This style also seems to have captured the
demographic of people who watch commentary's so I would be appealing to
the correct audience if I where to choose this as a possible option. It also
opens doors as to have some visually when I have nothing to show on screen.
Transitions
My video will have animated transition slides, an example of this
would be a tv with static turning on and then showing the
transition slide with like a divider on it saying “plot” or “story” I
think this can work as it shows skills in using premier pro after
affects and editing on the screen. Another transition slide I could
be a theatre or cinema with curtains opening up the animation
screen. I think having this instead of normal 2 second transitions of
just a black screen shows that I would put effort into even the little
details that wouldn’t normally be expected and as another plus it
would give me more to do.
Voices
There are different voices that I can use for this but I feel when I'm
reading my script I will use my normal voice, it will take a lot of
takes for each line, so I will need to do it have a voice that I can
keep consistent while recording, although I could try different
voices I doubt the affect will be great to listen to if I keep changing
tone.
Images
I would use images on my screen for different things,
an example of this would be if I was talking about
money an image of money would appear on the
screen in front of the film or whatever I have in the
background I personally feel that when reviews do
this although it doesn’t look smart it helps get the
message across. I would have other things appear on
the screen that would be related to what I was talking
about.
Language
There is different styles of language I can use when talking, I can use big word as high
brow and also use slang words mixing the two or I could just stick with one or the other,
but I think I will have a mix of both so I can use language as a movie critic but also seem
as a casual member of the audience this can make my points and tone more relatable to
people that would listen.
Film Footage
I would have footage in the background, this would be when I'm talking
about parts of the movie, I would have the different scenes on the
screen as I'm talking about it so that visuals and audio would be exactly
in sync. I think that it is important that I take care when putting the
visuals over as the scenes have to start as I talk about it and end as I
move on to a different scenes of topic. I would also have scenes that
aren't relevant when I'm talking about something that cant isn’t
relevant to a certain scene.
Audience Appeal
I will be using different styles to appeal to my audience, from colour
choice and font choice there is numerous different styles I can go for,
from research I am able to see that commentary reviews like my video is
going to be is using a font that matches Thor Ragnarok as well as using
the same colour scheme and possibly even copying the style of music,
however I will be using horror music over the transition for plot and this
is because I see the plot as a horror. I will use different sound tracks for
different transitions and this will show the style and tone that I will be
talking in for the subject also it will resemble my feelings on the topic.
Style
The style in which my video will be would be similar to
this poster because I feel that it would be important
to match up the film I'm talking about and stay
relevant on fronts. I think that this can work well with
my overall pln.
5. Concept Boards: Colour
Colour set one
The reason that I have chosen these types of colours for a
mood board is because they match the film as its happy and
cheery but I do want my review to be dark as I don’t like the
film and it will be a negative review. These colours are bright
and cheery. The first 4 colour sets, red, yellow, orange, green
and blue these are all the colours that are commonly seen in
the Thor movie posters. I think they are good colours and they
certainly set the tone for the movie, however it’s the wrong
tone, according to the comics that this movie is based off it’s a
extremely dark comic and that's why people enjoyed it
originally but in this poster they use these colours, I personally
like the new colours but I may use dark ones in the video to
colour correct it to what it is supposed to be.
Colour set two
This colour set looks at darker colours that I can use for my
video I feel that I can do a lot with these colours in comedic and
serious ways, I feel they can be a good way of providing my
feelings towards subjects in the film. The colour black I can use
as a transition between scenes have a black screen can also
indicate the voidness of some of the story if I choose to use it to
resemble it like that. Dark grey and light grey I can use as colour
correctness on scenes that are bright to reflect how it should of
looked if it was based off the comics like its supposed to,
obviously it wouldn’t be exactly what its meant to look like or
anything like it but it can work for visual comedic affect. The las
two colours are red I would add this in for a blood affect as that
is lacking from the movie because of its 12 rating apparently
they can have language but no blood in the film.
Colour set three
These are darker versions of the Thor Ragnarok colour scheme I would use these to
reflect how I felt while watching it, sad upset and down. I think this would be a nice twist
on that feeling and could give me a lot to talk about and also demonstrate how much
thought I put into little details on this.
Colour set four
These colours are yet again dark and I feel that they work with
what I'm trying to do in my film I would have this type of shade
on my transitions, I think that having this sort of range is good
for the overall concept of what colours I can use and how I can
use them effectively. I think the brownish colours I can use to
make curtains for a transition animation I'm going to make or I
will make them red.
Colour image
This image has lost of
variants for blue and I can
sample these colours and
use which ones I like later
if I wished. The mix
between dark and light is
what I would go for.
6. Concept Boards: Image
Transition one
My idea for my transition slide one in my factual piece is to have a transition where the
title card of the subject would come up on the cinema screen I would animate it with
flashing lights over the title and it would be in a bold font, I would be able to fit the screen
into position and as the title card comes up I would dim the lighting to the backdrop to
make it just like a cinema screening.
Curtain
This is what I would use to cover
the screen I would create 2
layers on each side of the screen
and the curtains would open as
the lightings drop to the screen,
its important that I make this
quick but so that it looks nice
and smooth. I would have to
make sure the curtain fits with
the ones on the cinema screen
but I would have to do this on
photoshop, I think this will work
nicely.
Lights
These lights would appear with the title card
and they would be shining lights at the screen
where the title writing would be and they
would move back and forth like on the 20th
century fox logo.
Transition two
This second transition will have a backdrop of a old
tv. The idea here is that the valves will turn on the
tv and it will turn to turn the tv onto static and
then the valve would turn again and it would turn
it onto the title card which would be a white text
that would start off small and then make its way to
the front of the screen on the tv, then it would
turn back to static with the valve animation and
then it would turn back to a black screen. The
issue with this idea is that there shouldn’t be a
long transition, I would have to cut it down to
something shorter. I would say if I can get it done
in 10 to 15 seconds it could work nicely so that is
what I would be aiming for. The music will play in
the background, I'm thinking interstellar no time
for caution to represent the title card of comedy
and how I go into the subject. When on static it
will also play a static sounds when on a static part.
7. Structure:
The opening of the video will be me introducing myself and explaining what the video will be, I have prepared a script to use
for this, the visuals as I open up will be the front cover of a Thor Ragnarok poster that will appear as it opens, as the video will
open up I will jump into the first transitions this will be the backdrop of a cinema screen with curtains opening and lights
dimming then it will open up to the title screen. After the first transition I will start talking about the topic, the opening topic
is plot, I will just give a brief and short rundown of the plot and as I talk about it the essential scenes that I will discuss will be
on the screen as I talk about them. Then the next transition will come up this will be of an old tv turning on then the title card
will appear saying comedy and it will play in the background no time for caution from interstellar this will reflect the attitude
that I will have towards the subject, in this part I will be critical towards the comedy making various points as to why I don’t
like it, as in the first part when I make these points in between I will have the scenes I talk about as reference and evidence
and hopefully with the context that I add with visuals. Then I would go into the next transition which would be visuals, in this
part I would actually praise the visual affects to the movie and say that I enjoyed them. This would bring me to the final part
of the video which would be my overall rating, conclusion and ending. This video has to be 5 minutes long so I will have to be
careful when structuring it and how much detail I go into as I don’t want to over do it and loose time. The purpose of my
video is to review a movie that I don’t like and give my opinion on it and present it in a way that demonstrates my opinion.
