Script and notes
1. Script
The film:
ďˇ Opens with standard marvel opening
ďˇ Starts with a monologue where he talks to a skeleton from Thor which
presents the idea that Thor is unintelligent.
ďˇ
Points to talk about:
ďˇ First joke within the first 2 minutes starts off with Thor having a
conversation with the villain but during the conversation his chains
slowly sin him away from the main villain. This joke then happens again.
ďˇ Eyebrow joke about the crown
ďˇ The hammer not coming to him joke.
ďˇ Music choice
ďˇ The bi-frost not working when Thor wants it to and the reason being that
the person who opens it is too busy talking to people and not in character.
Already there are no stakes/tension in the film.
ďˇ The joke of the bi-frost not opening continues for a full two minutes.
ďˇ After 8 minutes the bi-frost joke is finally over and he is picked up there is
actually some good soundtrack on this part of the film. I am amazed.
ďˇ 2 seconds after the bi-frost joke is over we are welcomed to a new joke
where a dragons head slowly moves across the floor.
ďˇ Character running cross the rainbow bridge slowly to catch up with thor
clearly meant to be another joke
ďˇ 10 minutes they pick up where the dark world left off and Loki is turned
into a joke of a character and villain.
ďˇ There is play that recreates the best moment of thor the dark world
accept it ruins Lokis character and shows that they are parodying the
moment, the reason for this is to show that the film is self aware of its
previous instalments as they parody it but the director and writer didnât
realise that his entire movie was a parody.
ďˇ 11 minutes in and already enough topics for a video.
ďˇ The reveal comes that Odin is Loki but as the serious moment is
happening the writer realises he cant have a moment of seriousness and
so he has someone come in and interrupt them in a jokey way.
ďˇ They then take the most powerful being which is Odin and put him in a
care home where he is left, this would be a very funny part but due to
ridiculousness of the first 14 minutes it looses its meaning.
ďˇ They make a joke about why Jane left which was the typical he dumped
her or she dumped him joke, not overused at all. This is how they get her
out of the films as the actress left probably after reading the script she
had been with him through everything but suddenly this happens.
ďˇ Random and pointless doctor strange cameo. Adds nothing to the story
and is randomly there.
ďˇ Thor been clumsy joke in the doctor strange cameo, we are now 16
minutes into the film.
2. ďˇ There is now a drinking joke.
ďˇ The doctor strange cameo is still happening and thor is now falling down
the stairs.
ďˇ Thors hammer coming to him slowly and breaking things joke. 18
minutes in.
ďˇ Loki falling for 30 minutes, this is a joke that could have worked and
being really nice but instead of this happening due to the first 20 minutes
being a joke this bit looses its meaning.
ďˇ They have a 5-minute serious moment with some dialogue that works. A
shame for what came before and whatâs to come
ďˇ They kill off thors best friends within seconds and a joke follows making
their deaths meaningless and extremely forgettable.
ďˇ 28 minutes in and we are shown what is supposed to a be a cool character
however she id drunk and falls over upon entry, yes this actually happens
in this film it is as bad as it sounds.
ďˇ They have a dragged out gag of her getting up after falling.
ďˇ Joke about who the villain is between the villain and
The script
Introduction
LUKE (Voiceover)
âThor RagnarĂśk a 74% on Metacritic and a 92% on rotten tomatoes, a film
that makes the return of Jeff Goldblum in big blockbuster movies, not
counting Independence Day: resurgence (2016), which lets be far no one
really remembers.
This review is going to split into different categories: plot, comedy, visuals
and overall view. these categories will each explain the film and what it is to
me as a viewer. Just a brief disclaimer, what I say in this video is my opinion
and if you feel differently thatâs absolutely fine it is just a movie.â
Plot
LUKE (Voiceover)
âThe plot starts off with Thor dangling down on chains, he breaks free and
kills the big fire demon taking the source of its power and returning to
Asgard.
Back at asgard Thor learns Odin is not Odin but in fact Loki and this leads to
them going to earth. this part of the plot takes 20 minutes to get to because of
long drawn out gags. There is a Doctor Strange cameo, which doesnât really
need to be there, the only reason its there is to bring more people into the
cinema (not necessarily a bad thing).
The film progresses and Thor learns that his farther is being kept in an old
peopleâs home.
3. His father dies and you forget it happened just like Thor.
It moves onto Thor finding out he has a sister and that she is the goddess of
death. At this part Loki and Thor donât really care they have a secret sister,
who would? I guess.
In short for time, the villain beats Thor and Loki while returning to Asgard,
within two seconds on arrival kills Thors best friends but since no one cares
in the film, I guess we shouldnât.
Side note : You might be thinking this is emotional for Thor but you must
remember how incompetent the script is and that there is no way that the
writer would be able to show emotion in death in a film thatâs supposed to
show emotion about in death especially as the villain is the goddess of death.
Its to much to ask from a writer.
Hela lands at Asgard killing the armyâs and killing more of thors friends,
believe it or not Thor never reacts to his friendsâ deaths, as he has no emotion
throughout the film.
Meanwhile Thor lands on a junk planet alone where we are unfortunately
introduced to Valkyrie. This is supposed to be a cool, bad ass character but
falls over as she enters her first scene, brilliant is all I have to say about it.
The film then progresses to Thor being captured and being forced to fight in
an arena. This is where Thor meets hulk again in a fighting pit. They unite
eventually after completing the generic oh I donât actually want to leave
subplot.
Eventually they leave together even Loki and Valkyrie join them and they
head off back to Asgard, this section took up what was left of the film.
As they get to Asgard they have the final fight where Thor loses his eye and,
in the end, beats his sister by getting the fire demon bloke from the beginning
to destroy Asgard. As Thor watches his home get destroyed Korg tells a joke.
The end. Thank god â
This entire plot was so bland and the emotional tension that should be seen
and felt was non-existent. Half the movie could be removed, and you would
have the same information on whatâs happening in the story with no extra
context.
Comedy
LUKE (Voiceover)
âThe main part, the âComedyâ aspect to the movie, the worst part. Lets start
with the beginning.
As the film opens Thor is dangling as we can see. Now Thor starts spinning in
the clichĂŠ joke that they use, the first spin interrupts the villain and thatâs the
4. joke I guess but then he spins again re using the same joke just seconds after,
you might think its just to keep the comedy affect going but when a joke no
matter how good or how bad when told more than once loses the initial
punch, this type of repetition happens multiple times throughout the film,
this can be seen from this scene where they call the hole they came from âthe
devils anusâ they repeat it over and over and over, you see the joke is the
name of it but in case you didnât get the joke lets repeat it constantly. This
happens with other jokes here are some examples:
(Shows all the different repetitive scenes relevant to the script)
From this you can see how bad the comedy writing is in the fact they have to
repeat it because they couldnât develop the script further. When you look past
the repition you realise the jokes get worse.
At this part were introduced to a âbad assâ character but upon entry she falls
over, do you get the joke? The film uses this type of comedy.
The best way I can explain it is a plain lazy, cheap gag. Itâs not clever and itâs
not witty, the best way to describe this comedy is easy, its so easy to do this
type of humour you donât need to plan and prepare the joke instead you say
well what if she just falls over. Lazy. The suggestion that they were having fun
making it and didnât focus on the script and thatâs why its 80% improvised is
stupidity.
when your making a movie with a budget of 180 million dollars you would
expect that it would be well written, well thought out and well made. Sadly
this film is loved for the comedy, when I was at the cinema watching it;
cringing at the jokes I realised that in the full screening, not one other person
was laughing and for a âcomedyâ I thought that must be bad but when I
returned home I thought nothing of it, I thought its just another film thatâs
going to do terrible but to my shock as I found out later the film was loved by
all, if anything I would have thought that the critics would have bashed itâ
Here are the rest of the jokes from Thor Ragnarok, since every line is a joke iv
had to speed up the film, its now the length that I wished is was whe I was
watching it.
I want to say on record I think some of the jokes told in this film where funny
and did have potential, but it was only about 5% of them, if even 30% of the
film was comedy and they focused the other 70% to character development
and storytelling I would have probably enjoyed it way more. even if the 30%
of jokes where still cringy. The jokes annoy me but itâs the fact that they are
95% of dialogue in the movie. For me it makes it so unwatchable.
Visuals
One thing that I cant knock about this film, has to be the visuals, they are
stunning and look great if I was to remove all audio from the film I could
5. actually see myself enjoying the fight scenes, the CGI works and the affects of
lightning are beautiful to look at, with a film that had all this protentional it
was a shame for me personally to see what it was.
Rather short section but at least I had something positive to say.
Overall view
Overall, I would give this film a 3/10, I feel let down and cringed out. Never
be for have a I ever wanted to leave the cinema until this movie on top of that,
iv been forced to watch this film 5 times to make a script, I had 5 minutes to
fit stuff in and I had over 30 minutes of critism and 6 other categoryâs to
include, but couldnât.
