As Acting Executive Director and Program Manager of the North York Women's Centre, I have had
the distinct pleasure of working with Lilian Zepeda since July, 2006. The North York Women's
Centre is a community-based, non-profit agency that has been providing services to women since
1ggg. programs and services at the North YorkWomen's Centre are planned to provide a safe,
supportive place where women can voice their concerns, share experiences, gain information, learn
skills and build friendships with other women.
Lilian has been volunteering with the North York Women's Centre in the capacity of a support group
and life skills co-facilitator. She completed our Facilitator Training Program in 2006 and has since
co-facilitated at least five support groups here. Through the Facilitator Training Program and
subsequent co-facilitation, Lilian has demonstrated her openness to new ideas and constructive
feedback and has used this to positively improve her facilitation skills.
One of the main services of the North York Women's Centre are its peer-support and life skills
groups. As a volunteer co-facilitator, Lilian was responsible for planning and co-facilitating women's
support groups such as Anger and You and Assertiveness. This is a role that requires organization,
patience, empathy, excellent communication skills, and team work. Lilian has demonstrated all of
these skills and has shown incredible support and respect for the women that she works with.
Lilian is one of our most dedicated and reliable volunteers. She has provided us with over 100
hours of her time since she started volunteering with us and has always been willing to help out
wherever she can, even participating in the coordination of our lnternational Women's Day Fair.
Lilian has a passion for helping people, especially women, and this comes through in everything
