The document summarizes the improvements made from a preliminary task to the final product of a magazine. Some key improvements included adding drop shadows to text to make it stand out more, changing colors to coordinate better with the magazine theme, improving image quality and layout, and fixing empty space issues. The writer is pleased with the final product and feels they were able to identify mistakes and make significant progress from the preliminary to final versions.
2. Masthead
The one on the left is the final product and the one on the right is my preliminary
task. One of the main improvements that are there are the drop shadow on the
final product, this makes the title stand out more to the target audience because it
jumps out at them as it is so bold. Another improvement is the colours, the blue on
the final product goes with the rest of the magazine as the other wouldn’t really go
with the blue house colour. I have kept a similar font, this is because I liked the font
on my preliminary.
3. The Front Cover
Now I look at them the front covers are so different as there are
some major improvements that have been made. The colours
have been totally changed and it was an improvement as the
colour scheme in my prelim task wasn’t going to work as you can
see some of it because of the white background. But in my final
product the writing stands out from the image with the help of
the drop shadow. It is all a better size in text as well. The image
is also a much better quality than the first one. I have used
effects to darken the image so it defines some of the features on
the models faces and outfits. This has helped a lot as on the
prelim it looks pale and doesn’t stand out. Even the layout was
improved while going onto the final product. The texts are in
better places and don’t go over the models face like in the
prelim. I am glad with the final outcome as there are some clear
improvements.
4. The Contents Page
The first noticeable thing between the two pages is the colour
scheme and there is a great improvement here. In the final product
the white background and the blue colours go together so
well, and compare that to the prelim task where it has a black
background with red and white the prelim cant beat it. The way I
have laid out the images is also a massive improvement. All the
images actually have a layout on the final product and the images
are just all over the page. The title is also easier to distinguish on
the final product as it is in a bright colour that stands out and the
drop shadow helps it pop off the page. The text is also easier to
read with the help of the drop shadow in the final product. Also in
the prelim there seems to be a lot of empty space which is a bad
thing while trying to attract readers as it looks empty. But in the
final product it looks full of stories and news. I am happy with the
end product as it actually looks like a real magazine contents page.
5. The Images
The cover of the magazine is a much better quality photo all
together. It has been edited but it is also much more
interesting that the prelim as that just looks boring. Also the
people on my final product also looking at the camera on
the photo. It has more imagination put in it that the prelim.
On the contents the picture are much better quality. They
are all much clearer and you don’t have to tilt your head to
see them properly. They have all been edited to look
better, look more eye catching on my final product. They all
have more imagination and thought put into them than
them off the prelim task. So there has been a great
improvement in the images.
6. Conclusion
In conclusion I think that I have made a lot of progress in the last few weeks while
making my final magazine. I feel like I was able to adapt the prelim task quickly and
realise the mistakes I made and that I had to improve them to make sure I get the look
correct. I now understand why I had to put in allot of planning into the magazine as it
saves time in the long run and its not just from impulse. All of this has helped me
improve my work so much and I am happy with the way it has turned out in the end.
