Expertise and Research Interests
A critical environmental geographer examining marine resource management, with a focus on how
policy decisions impact communities and economies dependent upon the health of those natural
resources. Experienced in: social-ecological systems research; marine spatial planning; behavioural and
economic modelling of resource utilisation; valuation studies; tourism; aquaculture; fisheries; public
policy review; international, national, and regional regulatory analyses; stakeholder-led research and
management; marine geomatics; GIScience; physical geography; marine ecology and ecosystem
characterisation; science-based public outreach; and media communications. Research interests:
community participation in coastal tourism development, stakeholder perspectives of aquaculture as an
economic alternative in coastal Ireland, and marine spatial planning policy in Ireland.
