The document discusses the mise-en-scene elements the author has chosen for their electronic dance music magazine cover and spreads. These include an outfit of a yellow patterned crop top and tie-dye leggings for the model, a happy facial expression, light makeup including red lipstick and mascara, inclusion of headphones as a prop, use of three-point lighting, and a sleek tight ponytail hairstyle for the model. The choices of elements are meant to convey a fun, upbeat tone suitable for the electronic dance music genre.
2. Mise-En-Scene
• Mise-En-Scene simply means “placing on stage” and
refers to the aspects of an image, film or play such as
the costume, props, hair and make-up that has been
put in the particular scene or image.
• The following slides show what Mise-En-Scene I
think is appropriate for the main image on my front
cover and in my double page spread.
7. I have chosen this outfit for my model which consists of a yellow patterned
crop-top with a necklace and tie-dye, multicolour leggings. I believe this outfit is
suitable because it consists of clashing retro colours which was a common
convention of EDM magazine colours from my research. The bright colours
connote fun and celebration and this will be suitable for the EDM genre because
the nightclubbing life is happy and upbeat.
9. • I believe that the model should have a happy
expression in most photos as electronic dance music is
associated with partying as opposed to being sad or
aggressive which is more associated with metal or rock
genres.
14. I have chosen to have my model to
have bright red lipstick and light eye
make-up (a small amount of
mascara). This is a light-hearted and
elegant look which I think would be
suitable for my magazine genre. I
have chosen to have a small amount
of eye make-up as having it heavy
would connote a more aggressive
genre of music such as gothic rock or
metal.
16. • I have chosen to include headphones in my magazine
images as sunglasses would stop the model having a
direct mode of address with the audience and this
makes the front cover less engaging for the reader.
18. • I have chosen to use three-point lighting in my main
images as this is used by professionals and is very
effective. The lighting consists of a front light
(primarily illuminates the model) the side light (this is
used to create shadows at different angles) and the
back light (this makes the model stand out from the
background.
24. I have chosen this sleek tight ponytail hairstyle because it looks
stylish and sophisticated. The hairstyle also allows the models
face to be fully visible as opposed to having her hair down where
it would partially cover her face.
