TASK 1- LEWIS BRADY
Contractual brief is a
legal document which
is created between an
employee and client,
breach of which can
give rise to litigation. It
is a document which
shows the expectations
of the client, the prices
they and finally the
payment terms
CONTRACTUAL
Communication
It allows the employer and client to agree on the price range and a set
income with the employer with the contractual brief, which allows precise
communication between the client and employer.
Time Management
Because of the employer and client agree to certain terms it allows for
there to be consistent time management because they have agreed to
follow a legal document and if they break the expectations of what is
required of them it will cause a failed product.
Technical Skills
Using this type of brief it allows the client and employer to keep on track
with what is being produced so and having a consistent organisation of
work in result to this it improve there technical skills in producing
consistent work.
Career Progression
This production brief causes a large amount of work to be produced
which may result in stress, but is also causes a strong consistent amount
of work which will benefit the client and employer exponentially. Allow
them to progress company resulting in a career progression.
This is when the client
and employer will to an
agreement on the brief
of the project, which
will include final ideas
of both the employer,
as well as the client. It
is important that the
client and company
agree on the brief.
NEGOTIATED
Communication
It allows for the employer and the client to quickly negotiate on an
agreement upon the brief of the project, this also allows for alot of
communication between he employer and client.
Time Management
The client and employer if needed to can negotiate between one another
to allow more time with completing a certain project they agreed to
produce.
Technical Skills
When the client negotiate on weather to change certain part of the
agreed upon project it will allow an increase of there negotiation skills
between one another if they were to work on another new project.
Career Progression
If the employer has finished negotiating the terms of which the project
will be planned and completed by with the client, this results in the
employer being able to take that experience and use it for another client
which will work towards his career being progressed.
This this where a media
company is given a
brief by the client which
outlines the product
which they are wanting
to be made. This brief
is very open and only
gives enough
information to be able
to produce the product.
FORMAL
Communication
This allows straightforward communication between the employer
and client through detailed document explaining how the project will
run and how it will be achieved.
Time Management
The document will be clear and consistent so the time management
will be clearly shown inside the formal production brief which will be
presented between the employer and client.
Technical Skills
Using a thorough detailed document it allows for the client to
understand the explained project with a clear insight of what will be
achieved through brief.
Career Progression
Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the
employer and client through a detailed document, in a result to this it
allows the ability to work around the contract slightly which can be
used in the future to progress your career.
Informal briefs are
different from a formal
brief because they are
more of an agreement
between two or several
parties but it is not done
in writing or signed with
nothing to official. Using
an informal production
brief I could be selling a
new product with only
guidelines of what the
company wanted and
what the company is
selling.
INFORMAL
Communication
This brief allows for more communication between the client and the
employer and less use of detailed written documents, this allows for a
general agreement to be made with looking through countless
documents.
Time Management
The document will be short so the time management will be clearly
discussed between the client and the employer personally instead of
looking at long documents.
Technical Skills
With less use of the written document it allows for decisions to be
made quickly, in a result to this it allows for production to be started
with a slightly longer delay.
Career Progression
Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the
employer and client through a short document, in a result to this it
allows the ability to work around the contract slightly which can be
used in the future to progress your career.
A commission brief is
where a large
corporation, such as
The Daily Mail, employ
an independent
company to create their
product for them. It is
notable that this type
of brief is negotiated
between two media
companies.
COMMISSION
Communication
The communication between the employer and client is quick and
precise updating the progression the product has made as it is only being
produced by one independent company so the report wont be quite as
long .
Time Management
The time management can be clearly seen as there is only one company
working on the project so they can update quickly if some parts of the
project need more time to complete than others.
Technical Skills
Because the terms between the client is quick and precise there is no
need to go into to much detail into the project because of there mainly
being one smaller company working on the project , as a result to this the
smaller company will a portion of the finished product’s profit.
Career Progression
Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the
employer and client through a short document, in a result to this it allows
the one company to proceed with the production of the project.
The client will produce
an advertisement
stating that they
require a media
product to be create. A
potential employer,
such as a production
company, initiates a
brief, a budget, aswell
as a proposal.
TENDER
Communication
This brief allows to be set terms agreeing on what the budget will for the
project and potential employers work on the product, so in doing this it
allows for the production to be started at a high standard and is great
way of communicating the product to the client.
Time Management
Because this brief is so precise it allows for the time to be managed
excellently, the employer is expecting the project to be achieved to high
standard because of the terms set with client.
Technical Skills
Using this type of brief it allows the client and employer to keep on track
with what is being produced so and having a consistent organisation of
work in result to this it improves there technical skills in producing
consistent work because of the proposal being so informative.
Career Progression
Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the
employer and client through a proposal in a result to this it allows the
ability to state what the costs will be and what production company will
be working on it.
A co-operative brief is
when companies work
alongside other
companies who have a
similar brief, and there
companies must work
alongside each other
completing different
tasks to get the
finished product.
CO-OPERATIVE
Communication
This is where two or several production companies are employed to
operate upon a set brief, In doing this it allows for several companies to
communicate between one another and allowing for the project to be a
lot more creative.
Time Management
The project has to be completed before a certain deadline, otherwise the
client will be extremely dissatisfied and will not employ the selected
companies in the future, this is why it so important to keep on track with
time management especially when producing a project with several
companies.
Technical Skills
Using this type of brief it allows the client and employer to keep on track
with what is being produced so and having a consistent organisation of
work in result to this it improves there technical skills in producing
consistent work because of the proposal being so informative.
Career Progression
Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the
employer and client through a short document, in a result to this it allows
the ability for other companies to work alongside one another on a
similar brief.
A brief Which is created
in order to be accessible
to all of the production
companies which are
participating in creating
a product. Each
corporation completes
their own brief, then all
of the finished projects
created by the
companies are judged.
COMPETITION
Communication
This type of production brief it allows communication between all the
production companies which are participating in creating the product for
the client.
Time Management
Because of the heavy competition, the employer will strive to pitch
themselves to the client in the most sufficient way, behaving in a
professional manner, which is likely to impress the client, and may, in
turn, provide the employer with work., this will also result into the time
needing to managed perfectly .
Technical Skills
Using a thorough detailed document it allows for the client to understand
the explained project with a clear insight of what will be achieved through
the brief.
Career Progression
Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the
employer and client through a short document, in a result to this it allows
the ability compete between all of the production companies which are
participating in creating a similar product
EXAMPLES OF COMPETITION (1)
1 . Who is the client?
The client is the Armor Games website owners
2. What media product(s) does the client require ?
Completed flash games are required to be released onto the Armor Games website
3. What is the timescale to deliver the product(s) to the client ?
The timescale is varied depending on what type of flash game that is being produced at the time.
4. Who is the intended target audience the client wishes the product(s) to appeal to ?
The client in which case is the Armor Games Website owners break up there target audience into
dif ferent categories, which are strategy, shooting, action, adventure and tower defence, they do this
so the products they deliver to the consumers will grab the attention of a wider range of people
because of sating most of there desires when they focus on a larger audience.
5. What are the legal and ethical issues relating to the production ?
the legal and ethical issues relating to the production are carried out by the owners of the website
where they will determine what suitable or in other words acceptable so they can be added to their
website.
6. What constraints do you have to work within (budget, length of product, format )?
The budget doesn’t really apply because of the games being that are created and added to Armor
games are free.
(2)
1 . Who is the client?
The client is the Steam Greenlight Team.
2. What media product(s) does the client require ?
Perhaps the biggest misconception developers new to the Greenlight process have is that their game
must be in a completed, or nearly completed, state before submitting.
3. What is the timescale to deliver the product(s) to the client ?
While you'll want your game video to be representative of the final product (more on that later), most
games that go up on Greenlight are months or even a year away from release.
4. Who is the intended target audience the client wishes the product(s) to appeal to ?
the intended target audience the client wishes it to appeal to are the people who own a Steam
account.
5. What are the legal and ethical issues relating to the production ?
Sadly, the majority of games on Greenlight are either not polished or not professional enough to
warrant consideration from voters. Generic RPG Maker games, games better suited for mobile
devices, and games with inferior graphics litter Greenlight, and are almost immediately dismissed by
Valve's community.
6. What constraints do you have to work within (budget, length of product, format )?
This is the part that Steam doesn't fully explain. What we do know is that, in order to be Greenlit,
your game will have to rank in the top X of those currently being voted upon. Thus, in order to safely
ensure comfortable passage onto Steam, you need aim for a ranking in the top 100, if not the top 50.
Thus, X equals somewhere between 50 and 100. This approximation is subject to change as the
service evolves.
(3)
1 . Who is the client?
The client is the IGN Reviewers
2. What media product(s) does the client require ?
The Client requires full produced games so they can be reviewed and presented to the IGN viewers.
3. What is the timescale to deliver the product(s) to the client ?
The timescale can vary to however long they want to spend on each review.
4. Who is the intended target audience the client wishes the product(s) to appeal to ?
the intended target audience the client wishes the product to appeal to is IGN viewers who want to
see complete reviews so they themselves can make an opinion on the games they view.
5. What are the legal and ethical issues relating to the production ?
the legal and ethical issues relating to the production are carried out by the reviewer of the certain
game he is reviewing where they will determine what suitable or in other words acceptable so they
can be added to their website.
6. What constraints do you have to work within (budget, length of product, format )?
The budget doesn’t really apply, because the games are reviewed and payments are carried out and
the reviewer can take as much as he need to review each game he is given.

Technical Skills Because the terms between the client is quick and precise there is no need to go into to much detail into the project because of there mainly being one smaller company working on the project , as a result to this the smaller company will a portion of the finished product’s profit. Career Progression Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the employer and client through a short document, in a result to this it allows the one company to proceed with the production of the project.

Technical Skills Using this type of brief it allows the client and employer to keep on track with what is being produced so and having a consistent organisation of work in result to this it improves there technical skills in producing consistent work because of the proposal being so informative. Career Progression Using this type of brief it allows opinions to be expressed between the employer and client through a proposal in a result to this it allows the ability to state what the costs will be and what production company will be working on it.
  • 8. A co-operative brief is when companies work alongside other companies who have a similar brief, and there companies must work alongside each other completing different tasks to get the finished product. CO-OPERATIVE Communication This is where two or several production companies are employed to operate upon a set brief, In doing this it allows for several companies to communicate between one another and allowing for the project to be a lot more creative. Time Management The project has to be completed before a certain deadline, otherwise the client will be extremely dissatisfied and will not employ the selected companies in the future, this is why it so important to keep on track with time management especially when producing a project with several companies. Technical Skills Using this type of brief it allows the client and employer to keep on track with what is being produced so and having a consistent organisation of work in result to this it improves there technical skills in producing consistent work because of the proposal being so informative. • 9. A brief Which is created in order to be accessible to all of the production companies which are participating in creating a product. Each corporation completes their own brief, then all of the finished projects created by the companies are judged. COMPETITION Communication This type of production brief it allows communication between all the production companies which are participating in creating the product for the client. Time Management Because of the heavy competition, the employer will strive to pitch themselves to the client in the most sufficient way, behaving in a professional manner, which is likely to impress the client, and may, in turn, provide the employer with work., this will also result into the time needing to managed perfectly . • 13. 1 . Who is the client? The client is the Steam Greenlight Team. 2. What media product(s) does the client require ? Perhaps the biggest misconception developers new to the Greenlight process have is that their game must be in a completed, or nearly completed, state before submitting. 3. What is the timescale to deliver the product(s) to the client ? While you'll want your game video to be representative of the final product (more on that later), most games that go up on Greenlight are months or even a year away from release. 4. Who is the intended target audience the client wishes the product(s) to appeal to ? the intended target audience the client wishes it to appeal to are the people who own a Steam account. 5. What are the legal and ethical issues relating to the production ? Sadly, the majority of games on Greenlight are either not polished or not professional enough to warrant consideration from voters. Generic RPG Maker games, games better suited for mobile devices, and games with inferior graphics litter Greenlight, and are almost immediately dismissed by Valve's community. 6. What constraints do you have to work within (budget, length of product, format )? This is the part that Steam doesn't fully explain. What we do know is that, in order to be Greenlit, your game will have to rank in the top X of those currently being voted upon. Thus, in order to safely ensure comfortable passage onto Steam, you need aim for a ranking in the top 100, if not the top 50. Thus, X equals somewhere between 50 and 100. This approximation is subject to change as the service evolves.
