Presentation: During Class, 14th – 17th September 2015 (Week 7)
Introduction
Businessstudents from all walksof lifecanuse the write upof a businessplanas a methodof exploring
ideas when starting a new business. The plan is simply a questionnaire that clarifies the possibilities
and requirements of any kind of business that you have been thinking about. And until you ponder on
these questions,you willnot be ableto visualize the detailsnecessaryfor the success in your business.
Objectives of Project
The objectives of this project:
 To understand the different types of business (e.g. physical goods vs. service).
 Tounderstandandevaluatethe roles of humanresourcesmanagement, marketing,production
and finance in a business.
Learning Outcomes of Project
On successful completion of this project, students will be able to demonstrate the following:
 Explain the internal and external factors that affect a business’ operations.
 Explain the goals and functions of businesses.
 Describe and analyze the theories of human resources management, marketing, production
and finance and their applications.

Tasks - Methodology
Your tasks are as follows:
a) Form agroup of 5 members.
b) Choose onememberasthe group leader.
c) Brainstorm anddiscussthenature of businessthat you wouldlike to start.
d) Basedon your discussion,presentyour businessplan in a 10-minutepresentation.You are
encouragedtousedifferent types of presentationaidsto presentyour topic (e.g. PowerPoint,
video clips,manilaposters,role-play, games,anythingunderthe sun, etc.)as this wouldhelp
engageyour audience’sattentionandhave positive impactonyour assessmentscore.
e) You canuse various informationsourcesforyour research e.g.text and non-textbooks,
magazines,newspapers,journals,internet,interviews andmultimedia(e.g.videoclips,audio
files, PowerPointslides).
f) Avoid (as muchaspossible)usingtechnical words inyour presentation;instead usesimple,
everydaywords.
g) After the presentation,you areto submityour presentationsaids (preferablyin softcopy
form)for assessmentpurposes.
h) Note: ensurethat you have at least 5 differentsourcesofinformationinthereference
sectionof the report andthe internet constitutesno more than40% of your sources.
i) Important:Ensurethatyou quoteyoursources (APAstyle)and refrain fromcopying.I
conductplagiarismcheckson all assignmentssubmitted.Studentscaughtwith the said
offencewill facedisciplinaryactions.Ignorethiswarning atyourown risk.

whoare your (potential)competitors?Whataretheir strengths andweaknesses?
c. Marketing Strategies
A detailedexplanationofyour productorservice's benefits (i.e. what’s so goodaboutit?), salesstrategy
(howwouldyou sellit or howcancustomersobtaintheproductsfrom you?), pricing (whatarethe
sellingandcostprices?),andadvertising andpromotionalactivities(howwillyou attract customersto
your product?).
d. Management Strategies

e. Financial Plan

amountof capitalinvestedby ownersand the amount of loansfrom lenders),forecastedsalesand profit
figuresover the next 3 years and howto split the profit or losses amongtheowners.

advantage over your competitorsandsuggestways to deal the businessissues(target of market,
managementskills,financial planning,competitors,etc.).
g. Reference
It bears repeating that this part is very important. Ensure that your sources are properly cited (APA
style) and that you have a minimum of 5 different sources in your reference section.

The plan is simply a questionnaire that clarifies the possibilities and requirements of any kind of business that you have been thinking about. And until you ponder on these questions,you willnot be ableto visualize the detailsnecessaryfor the success in your business. Objectives of Project The objectives of this project:  To understand the different types of business (e.g. physical goods vs. service).  Tounderstandandevaluatethe roles of humanresourcesmanagement, marketing,production and finance in a business. Learning Outcomes of Project On successful completion of this project, students will be able to demonstrate the following:  Explain the internal and external factors that affect a business’ operations.  Explain the goals and functions of businesses.  Describe and analyze the theories of human resources management, marketing, production and finance and their applications.
  • 2. 2 Tasks - Methodology Your tasks are as follows: a) Form agroup of 5 members. b) Choose onememberasthe group leader. c) Brainstorm anddiscussthenature of businessthat you wouldlike to start. d) Basedon your discussion,presentyour businessplan in a 10-minutepresentation.You are encouragedtousedifferent types of presentationaidsto presentyour topic (e.g. PowerPoint, video clips,manilaposters,role-play, games,anythingunderthe sun, etc.)as this wouldhelp engageyour audience’sattentionandhave positive impactonyour assessmentscore. e) You canuse various informationsourcesforyour research e.g.text and non-textbooks, magazines,newspapers,journals,internet,interviews andmultimedia(e.g.videoclips,audio files, PowerPointslides). f) Avoid (as muchaspossible)usingtechnical words inyour presentation;instead usesimple, everydaywords. g) After the presentation,you areto submityour presentationsaids (preferablyin softcopy form)for assessmentpurposes. h) Note: ensurethat you have at least 5 differentsourcesofinformationinthereference sectionof the report andthe internet constitutesno more than40% of your sources. i) Important:Ensurethatyou quoteyoursources (APAstyle)and refrain fromcopying.I conductplagiarismcheckson all assignmentssubmitted.Studentscaughtwith the said offencewill facedisciplinaryactions.Ignorethiswarning atyourown risk.
