Treatment for my film
1. Treatment
Title- Brother Hood
Running time- the running time for my film is 90 minutes, the average running
time for a drama film is 125 minutes, the film needs to be this long because
Drama films narrative are detailed. My film has a lot of different things going on
within the narrative so 90 minutes is the minimum amount of time that is
needed form my film.
Genre- The genre that my film fits in is Drama; other sub genres that my film
contains are things like urban, youth, sub urban and the segregation in society
between classes in Brittan. My film targets the problems within society
classification system in Brittan, looking deep into the problems, which the four
shadows of our country withhold.
Narrative- My film is an adaption fro the Blood Brothers book by Brian Lumley
that was published in 1992. My adaptation on the book is a modernised version
that will look more closely into problems that our generation is tied into like
drugs and crime. My film is about a Mother (Amy) that gives birth to two
identical twins, she is not able to manage both of them because she already has
seven other children to manage, the situation that she is in means that she is
unfit to bring up both of the children. Her boss at work (Rebecca) is unable to
have children and her husband (Dave) is keen to have a son, he treats his wife
badly because she is unable to have children. To solve this problem (Rebecca)
Knows the Kate has a child that she is struggling to bring up so she offers him a
lump some of money for one of the twins. The mother sees this as an opportunity
to change her life so she accepts the offer and gives up one of the boys. Later on
in the film the two brothers end up becoming friends (Ross and Jamal) without
knowing that they are blood related, the two brothers are from two different
aspects of society. Ross is from Heath town, he is bought up by his birth mother
Amy and lives in an estate flat whereas the person the other person Jamal lives in
Wednesfield and is of middle-class. Ross and Jamal have a female friend named
(Keisha) whom they both secretly like. Later on in the film, when the brothers
are older in the film they end up falling out and not speaking for a while this is
the disruption event that happens within the narrative.
The film concludes with Ross finding out that Keisha is cheating on him with his
best friend Jamal even though they are secretly brothers. Amy and Rebecca find
out that the Jamal and Ross are brothers, she is told by their two mothers. The
enraged ross goes to kill Jamal who is at his owned mansion, Ross has a gun and
ends up Knifing Jamal the police must have been called up by someone and make
it to the scene Ross is then shot cold blooded in front of his mother and wife.
Equilibrium- The normality within my narrative is when the mother Amy gives
birth to her two sons in the fill, at this point in the film, nothing is disrupting the
Disruption- The event that causes disruption in the film is nearing the end of the
film. When Jamal and Ross get into a fight over Keisha they stop speaking this
affects the ending to the film, the event that occurs is not a normality.
Recognition- When Ross goes to kill Jamal, this is the point in the film were
everything changes. Ross thinking that killing Jamal will resolve the situation,
this is the recognition within the film.
Attempt to repair- When both ross and Jamal’s mothers come to the scene to
tell them that they are brothers it makes the situation worse because all the lies
that were covered up caused this.
2. Resolution- The Equilibrium is restored when the two brothers are berried side
by side.
Character list- Ross, one of the main characters in the film, he is Jamal’s
Brother/friend. Jamal, the brother that is of higher class and was separated at
birth. Amy, the birth mother of the two brothers she works for Rebecca as a
cleaner. Rebecca is Amy’s Boss she, later adopts one of the twins illegally.
Cast- I will need to gather two male actors for my film and three females there
are also some other minor roles that I need.
For my film I will need my
character to look like he is from a
disadvantage background, I will
need to portray the modern
hooded youth. How this star is
represented will appeal to my
target audience.
My other main star in the film will
be of middle class so I will need to
portray him in this way for my
film. This will appeal to my target
audience who are of middle class
(Mainstreamers)
Key scenes-.
1.The scene were the enraged ross goes to kill Jamal who is at his owned
mansion, Ross has a gun and ends up Knifing Jamal the police must have been
called up by someone and make it to the scene Ross is then shot cold blooded in
front of his mother and wife.
2.The scene were the mother is offered by her boss to give away one of her
children.
3. 3.The break up scene were the brothers stop talking dew to a complicated
situation, they fight over their female friend Keisha who they both secretly
admire.
Target audience- My target audience for my film are youths that are of the age
of 15-25, which can generally relate to the situations that are expressed in my
film, these are people like youths that have things like family and friendship
important to them.
Representation- In my film I will be representing the classification system
within our society, and showing how these can change a person’s life. In my film
I am also showing that no matter who you are or what you do there are people
who do illegal things in all of society, I represent this through my character Amy
In my film.
What make a UK Film- A UK film is made by UK stars being in the film and the
film being made by a British film crew, this is what makes our films original.
Location is also another important part to make a film British. Having British
dialogue in a UK film is another important thing that needs to be in a film.
Legal and Ethical- For my film I will need to consider the music that I use, and
how I deal with brand representation for my film. If I were to show a close up of
a brand in my film I would have to pay or ask for permission if I never followed
this rules the film would be copyrighted. This film is not a professional film it is a
school project.
I would have to be careful how a represent themes within my film, there are
some themes that people could find offensive and it is my job to make sure that
the chances of something like this happening is reduced. The theme of adoption
is something that I have to be careful with paying mind that this could be
offensive to someone. I will also have to be careful how I represent the society's
class system within my film I will have to make sure that I don’t portray society
in the wrong way. My film would have to be certificated by the BBFC before it is
published, they will review the content of my film and give it a age rating.
Classification- My film will have frequent strong language that is not suitable for
children, there may be some sexual reference in my film and some scenes of
discriminatory language or behaviour, my film is an urban film based on the
youth so there will be some drug taking.
Funding- I could acquire funding from statutory corporation company like the
BBC by putting forwad to them a pitchabout my film; they have in previous years
funded UK films from the funding body UK Council.
