Camera Distance Acquisition System
As of current, my primary job responsibility is crash reconstruction. Over the years, I have evolved my
investigative practices by implementing personal innovations specific to a variety of crash scenes (cold weather,
rain, heat, low light, embankments, water, bridges) and the unforeseen. As many have experienced, many of
these crashes cause traffic backups. From my experience, those backup affect many directly and indirectly from
simple inconvenience to DEATH. Over the past couple years I have conceptualized an innovative device that
will lessen the much needed time to investigate a traffic crash – the innovative concept is called the Camera
Distance Acquisition System. To be brief and very simply put, the concept will affix a measuring laser atop a
DSLR camera and communicate with the camera through the camera's hot shoe (TTL). The camera will then
work in unison with the laser – an investigator will be able to take evidential photographs and crash scene
measurements simultaneously! By evaluating and debriefing myself after on scene investigations, currently I
have estimated I can clear a “standard” serious crash in approximately 1.5 to 1.75 hours (not to include dispatch
and arrival time). The Camera Distance Acquisition System will allow me to lessen investigative time by at least
45 minutes to an hour.
The achievement of the concept will be used primarily, but not limited to investigative discovery at
traffic crashes. The concept will allow an investigator to maximize on scene efficiency (investigative speed)
without sacrificing investigative detail. This will increase public safety by making capable quicker scene
clearance which will minimize secondary crashes associated with traffic backups which is associated with
additional civil litigation, loss of work, insurance claims, and medical bills.
Being that the inconveniences and dangers of traffic backups affects community, and WILL
INCONVENIENCE YOU DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. I am asking for community support to help me help
you by having the concept researched and developed. I have submitted the concept to SHARK TANK and I'm
