● On average, less than 20% of the items in an individual American’s closet
are worn, yet most spend over $1,500 a year on clothing.
● Textile waste is a growing epidemic. An average American throws away
about 80 pounds of used clothing (hurting the environment and increasing
spending by cities). Over 10.46 million tons of clothing ends up in landfills,
taking hundreds of years to decompose.
● People are constantly shopping and wasting money on new clothes, due to
struggling to put outfits together based on what they already have.
● Struggling to purchase clothes they really need and can work well with the
items already in their closet.
3. Solution
● mySTYLIST app
● Application would help people save money and time, while enhancing their
outfits and personal style. Users would see all the different uses for clothing
items they already own.
● The service will be provided directly through the app, where the user can input
all of their clothing items and style preferences, then be met with clothing
combinations formulated by a real stylist. They will also receive buying and
donation/resale suggestions to improve their closet.
