2. INTRODUCTION
Effective communication is essential in every facet of an evolving society.
According to American Federation of Teachers “ Effective communication
is essential for building school-family partnerships. It constitutes the
foundation for all other forms of family involvement in education;”
Additionally, it is the glue that bonds the relationship between teacher
and student, teacher and parent and teacher to teacher. This creates a
harmonious relationship and helps to foster an environment that is
conducive to learning.

Involve parents in planning activities for children in and out of the classroom. Including
disciplining methods. Invite parents to celebrate and break bread together.
Smile when you see parents, greet them. Most parents only occasionally interact with
teachers so make sure that it is impressionable and positive, warm and friendly.

Your language is powerful. It communicates an awareness that there are many different
kinds of families. Be careful not to assume. Learn to ask open- ended questions and
understand that sometimes parents/guardians might not want to share some information.
Ask questions about the child- what does he/she do outside of school? Who are the special
people in their lives?; Demonstrate an interest in knowing your students.
Listen to the parents/guardians they know a lot about their kids. Smile at the child when
talking to a parent, make eye contact with the student to demonstrate that you care about
the child.

Make a positive phone call Home. Identify those students who perhaps need a positive call
home.
Lead with good news. Give positive praise first when calling or meeting parents then address
concerns. Adhere very strictly to this rule. Share every success.
Let them share their cultural traditions, interests, passion, skills and knowledge with you, so
that they can make significant contributions especially if it connects to the curriculum and
content.
Be a broker of resources. If they share a concern, be prepared to point them to a direction
where they can find help; if you share a concern be prepared to suggest what the parents
can do.

It is most critical that a teacher develops a
relationship with their students. This is done by
getting to know each student, their cultural,
social, economical and spiritual background. It is
also very important to understand the individual
student and their learning needs so as to teach
them effectively.
Developing the trust of the students is also critical. It is
important that respect is maintained between both the teacher
and the student. Allowing the student to interact and voice their
opinion on subject matters can also create an atmosphere where
students feel as if they are given a chance to express themselves
and that their educators care about their learning experience.

Relationship.
A teacher must be consistent in the application of her work. The Teacher must be
knowledgeable in their subject matter, this necessary as there are students who learn in
different ways and different frequencies, therefore they must be versatile in their teaching.
Teacher must follow through with what he/she says they will do . This allows for trust building.
The teacher should allow students to experiment and experience lessons and allow them to
make certain decisions within the classroom.
Develop a relationship so that student can feel comfortable to approach the teacher to make
queries, ask for advice, or be able to confide in a teacher.
13. Practical ways to Develop a Teacher-Student
Relationship
The Teacher can give students assignments that would foster creativity , show their skills,
and share their experiences and interests.
The Teacher can incite classroom discussions and allow students to lead out while they are
just looking on as the mentor, moderator, mediator.
Teachers can learn a lot about their students by interviewing them, In that way you learn
about the students likes and dislikes, abilities or disabilities or any other issues.
As a Teacher, a relationship can be solidified by offering help to students. This will develop a
lot of confidence on the student’s part about the teacher and therefore the teacher can then
apply the lessons, since the students needs would have been met that student can now focus
on their school work. Trust is also developed.

Teachers need to develop a relationship
with each other so that students can see
that they are working together in
harmony, and that their best interest is
being sort after by their teachers. Isolation
is a very real issue in the teaching
profession. It is easy for teachers to
become isolated from each other through
cliques or groups.
However, each teacher should recognize
that they all serve one common function and
a similar purpose and that is the
development and success of each student
entrusted into their care. Therefore, it is
paramount that teachers find effective ways
to collaborate and not just exist, but work to
develop relationships with each other as
professionals.

Relationship with Their Colleagues.
A Teacher should be able to communicate with his/her colleague at all times
They must be able to assist each other in reaching goals for the benefit of the
students of the school.
They ought to share ideas and learn from each other, create an environment
that is instrumental in shaping, developing and creating brilliant minds.
Teachers must be willing to work with each other so as to prevent power
struggle and frustration which can impact on the teacher’s productivity
level and quality of teaching.
17. Practical Ways Teachers can Develop
Relationship with Their Colleagues.
Forming. This is the easiest stage where a team comes together with a sense of excitement and
anticipation. People begin to learn about each other and develop processes for how their group will
function.
Storming. Teaching styles and practices can be a very sensitive and personal area for many teachers. Those
who are used to working in isolation can find it difficult to share ideas or have their practices questioned
however it is necessary for the sake of the students.
Norming. As teachers continue to collaborate, they begin to see the positive side of collaboration. There is
an increase in productivity, relationships improve and focus is on achieving a consensus through shared
input.
Performance. The teachers reaches high levels of functioning- Academic and professional growth is
exponential. When there is a disagreement, it can be discussed with a sense of collegiality and
understanding that the main goal is the improvement of a learning environment for every student.
18. Conclusion
It is of integral importance that there is a collaboration among teachers and parents and
teachers, so that students can benefit and reach their optimum potential. There are many
hindrances that affects the harmonious relationship among each group represented. It is
however, necessary to take into consideration the individual’s culture, religion, social, economic
and psychological factors that affect these different relationships. They significantly impact the
progress and development of the students therefore, creating positive relationships with
students, parents and other teachers are both necessary and beneficial, not only for the students
but for a better society on the whole; where educated young men and women are the product of
