This document discusses different types of communication networks including Y networks, circle networks, and grapevine networks.
In a Y network, communication flows both upward and downward through the hierarchy from employees to supervisors. Circle networks allow all members to communicate with each other horizontally. Grapevine networks refer to informal communication channels inside and outside an organization where information spreads quickly through rumors.
The effectiveness of these networks depends on the specific communication needs in different situations. No single network is best for all occasions.

Y network
In the Y network, the flow of communication
resembles an upside down Y; information flows
upward and downward through the hierarchy,
widening to encompass the number of
employees reporting to a supervisor. IN this
network Individual can communicates with
both his superior and subordinates.
12. Example
▰ In Y pattern, it’s more complex pattern and also has the
communication problem which seems in
▰ both circle and chain pattern. The group is parted into thr
ee and the group members can communicate with the
other members group through leader only. For example,
two
assistant principals, (A and B) report to the principal (C).
The principal, in turn, reports to the assistant
superintendent (D), who reports to the superintendent (E)

13. Circle network
13
This circle network is similar to a chain network except
that information flows in a circular form or direction
rather than vertical form or direction. In this network
we cannot directly communicate with each other. In this
network, the lowest level of worker can communicate
with the top level of manager. It is representative of
horizontal and unified communication. The circle gives
every fellow equal communication opportunities. Each
member can communicate with persons to their right
and left. Members have identical limitations, but the
circle is a less restricted condition than the wheel, chain,
or Y networks. In the circle network, everyone becomes
a decision maker
14. All circle network
14
▰ All the individuals in this network communicate with each other freely,
permanently, and regularly.
▰ There is a single path of communication in a single-channel network for
a particular position and information flows through that path only to
various person.
▰ All-channel groups usually experience no emergence of a leader and member
satisfaction is high. Common communication framework used in self-
managed teams, where all group members participate and no one takes a
leadership role is an example of all circle network
▰ The effectiveness of any of these networks depends on the variable you’re
most concerned about. No single network is best for all occasions.
15. Grapevine
15
▰ Grapevine is a form of informal communication, operates both in
internal and external informal channels which can contribute to
and benefit the organization.
▰ Therefore, it is found in all organizations. It does not follow any
prescribed or predetermined rule and spreads any information
quickly.
