“Helping You Achieve Better Scores For A Brighter Future”
Score for Achievement, INC. (SFA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth organization designed to provide tutorial
and mentoring support for at-risk adolescents between the ages of 13-20 in the Montgomery area. SFA’s goal
is to identify and provide early intervention services to help combat the damaging effects of living in
a destructive environment. SFA provides at-risk children the opportunity to embrace their maximum
potential and achieve overall success.
Knowing firsthand the damaging effects of growing up around negative community influences, I made
it my personal goal to save young lives. I wanted to help generate a sense of hope for the vulnerable youth in
my community. Armed with the desire to create better opportunities for the growing population of at risk
children, I created Score For Achievement, Inc.
SFA focuses on promoting the participant’s individual responsibility and commitment to achieve their goals
while providing tailored guidance for college and career plans. SFA provides tutorial service, access to test
prep courses and opportunities to tour various colleges. Our mentees have toured the University of Alabama,
Auburn University, Clark-Atlanta University and Georgia State University. We are currently planning a trip to
visit Howard University and Georgetown in February 2017.
As director of SFA, I am able to participate in candid conversations about choices and consequences at
middle and high schools in the immediate Tri County area. From these sessions, I am able to select possible
candidates I feel would benefit most from mentor support. I am able to demonstrate how to obtain and utilize
positive interpersonal skills with the use of my own Be Cool: Teen Anger Reduction Program. I created this 8
week curriculum to help SFA mentees identify and cope with any deep rooted anger triggers. I also make time
to provide one on one sessions in the home to help participants work through imminent issues.
Becoming a known visible partner within the community is also a focal point of SFA. It is my intention
to continue being present and help create a sense of camaraderie between SFA and the communities we
serve. Additionally, SFA hosts a series of monthly community/family events such as our annual SFA Family
Fun Day/Back to School event held in August.
The focus of Score For Achievement, INC., in summary is to empower the targeted youth to make positive
changes in their lives and their community.
