1. Maya Angelou said that “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don't
make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that
people can't take their eye off you."
As an advocate, I have adopted this inspirational quote as my motto. I believe I was able to
accomplish all of my professional goals with the desire of improving the community. Thoughout
my career I have outreached individuals in the community with the purpose of advocating for
thoses who are unable to advocate for themselves. I have engaged many people in the
community in several professional settings such as; Community Options, Inc., The Arc of
Middlesex, Division of Youth and Family Services, Roosevelt Care Center, arc of Monmouth,
Arthur Bisbane Treatment Center, and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The desire to become an advocate started when I was three years old. I witnessed my parents
advocating for equal protetion, equal rights for all individuals within the community, and the
principles of the constitution. Their hard work lead to several law changes enhancing child
welfare, child protection laws, and child policies. This influence has been evident throughout my
education as well.
I chose to pursue a diverse education path which allows me to view the role of an advocate in
different dimensions and be creative in helping people in the community. I have obtained a
Certificate in Business Management from the Professional Community Development Program at
Brookdale Community College, a Bachelor in Art with a minor in Psychology at Georgian Court
University, and Master's in Public Administration.
I believe that my personal experiences as well as diverse educational background have shaped
me into a well rounded community advocate. I know I am stronger, fearless, motivated,
empathetic, compassionate, and willing to accomplish any goal ahead of me. Ulitimately, I
believe all of these charactersitics embody a trustworthy advocate.
